As far as I know you can always downgrade to Windows 7 even if the laptop has windows 8 installed already!

not if you have windows 8 basic or home. you need the top of the range version of windows 8 to be able to "downgrade" to windows 7 :(

Then I suppose you will either have to look for a laptop with Windows 7 - (Contact me if you need one - brand new), or PM me if you want to install windows 7 on a Windows 8 laptop.

Cheers dude.. I might just invest in a new laptop cause my one is a few year old!

Opinions on the new Acer Aspire V5, WIN8, Touch Screen, 1TB HDD, 6GB RAM...?!

Need something for Dj'ing, i.e good processor (Min - 2.0GHz)... Cant justify paying mental money on a Macbook Pro :p

Look for an i3/i5/i7 CPU,the AMD are cheaper and decent but the intel CPU's are simply better.
Not sure what DJ'ing programs use ram wise but I'd say 6GB would be comfortable. At least 4GB +
HDD wise, look for one with a speed of 7200rpm,you can always add an external drive for files. **
Win8 mightn't work with your current programs, google Win8 upgrade adviser (same as the one above but for Win8).

**If you get one with a 1TB HDD,and it was me, I'd buy a 120GB SSD (€90ish) and an adaptor to run the 1TB as an external. Then install the OS and your main programs onto it whilst saving to the now external HDD. It would drastically speed up the laptop.

I have a 1TB External Hard Drive just as back up for my music & pictures.

If I'm buying a new laptop, I wont have much files on it as I will run them from the External HD when using the Dj Software.

So how do I go about fitting an SSD, (do i use an SSD instead of a HDD??)... I am not too up to date on this Tech malarky :p

I fix/sell laptops for living mate. You can PM me if you have any questions regarding the laptops/PC's!
1) What is your budget?
2) What software are you going to run on it?
3) I can explain how to fit a new SSD, it's pretty easy to do!
4) Make sure that your software has full support for WIndows 8 - as you might have drivers issues or other problems, I would personally stick to windows 7, unless you really want a touch screen laptop, then no question you will benefit from the Windows 8.

To gain a full advantage of the speed with the external hard drive you need either the hard drive with ESATA connection or a USB3 external hard drive - otherwise you're limited to the USB2 - 30Mb per second speed - which is pretty slow in my opinion!

Yes you stick the SSD instead of the HDD, but the SSD will come with no operating system installed, so you will need to either reinstall the windows or make a copy of the whole hard drive using special software and then restore it to your ssd.

6Gb is overkill in my opinion - 4Gb should be enough for you, but extra RAM is always good, as long as you can afford it -))))
SSD - is much better than the hard drive - the only problem is that they cost more, but it's very beneficial if you carry a laptop with you at all times - as they consume less power than hdd so the battery life will be extended, also they're lighter and they won't damage if you shake/drop your laptop unlike HDD. The main disadvantage is that they're pretty expensive and of a small size compared to the HDD.

I'd say if you work from the AC plug most of the time and have a decent laptop hard drive and start your programs just once before your work - you wouldn't notice much of a difference really as once started all your files will be in the RAM. You will notice a massive difference however if you work with multiple programs, restart you windows often and search for files a few times a day the difference will be like a day and a night!

well, true.. but a rule of life i've learned is generally, you get what you pay for.. and the finer things are often a tad not-so-cheap.. :)
