Xbox One...

Anyone watched the new Xbox One reveal yet?

I'm half way through, and i'm bored to tears and not seen any games yet.

It's just a corporate sell on viewing TV and waving your hands about so far.

Not what I was expecting to be honest!

Apps are handy, but I only care about gaming.

What did everyone else think?

Watched the most of it, not mad impressed ,very little actual gameplay shown and no real details on the hardware/XBLive.

I'll wait until E3 but honestly after seeing a GT6 video theres no way I'm getting it,they still haven't recorded decent sounds. And to be honest,it was the only reason I ever got a PS3

Was more impressed by the PS4 reveal TBH, seemed to take the gaming more seriously which to me as a gamer means a lot more than being able to watch TV drivel or using pointless apps. If I want to watch TV I go watch TV ffs.

I fear they have reached the point where the technology will just be dumbed down for the masses, for example the whole Windows 8 experience is prohibitive enough and not the leap forward it should have been.

Will bide my time and sample both Xbox/Playstation offerings before rushing out to buy one I think.

Nope, the last one had 512MB, the new one has 8GB, a big difference lad.

They reckon the price is £399, seems a little steep to me (for the masses).

If its using the same hardware as the PS3 its not just the amount, they're using DDR5 ram,we only have that on our GPU's in our PC's. We'll have it in about a year but still its the one high spec part it has.

The rest will more than likely be low to mid range PC's specs like the PS3,which is still much much more powerful than the old consoles.

Agree with Jay,if I want a TV I'll buy one. I buy a gaming console to play games.

I agree as well, I just want a gaming console, not impressed at all so far. Just like some corporate bullshit, the presenters were terrible as well, who are they trying to appeal to?

Please don't get me started on the gaming consoles - I hate them so much!!! They ruined all the great games with their hardware limitations and they upgrade them once in 8 years, where is the PC can be upgraded every year no problem!

The "new" generation consoles both PS4 and Xbox whatever the name is, will use CHEAP to death AMD CPU's with INTEGRATED graphics in the chip... Another words "BRAND NEW" Consoles will be slower than my 5 year old Graphics card..... SHOCKING!

If I confused you - that would mean that the new games will NOT get any better graphics, higher resolutions, better sound, etc... The Specs inside the Consoles are way too poor for proper gaming!

Look at the Crysis for example - it come out in 2007 for PC only and STILL (2013) is not supported by the consoles simply because they haven't got the power to run it... The Crytek come out with an idea of making money and made Crysis 2 which is nowhere near like the 1st Crysis, BUT it works fine on the consoles!

Regarding the HD graphics - 720p for 2013 is CHEAP, I had this graphics on my PC in 2001.... They say it's 1080p but this is the UPscaled 1080p from 720p.
Good marketing though - 1080P HD RGB camera - so people see that and think WOW I can play games with 1080p graphics, but they talk about the camera for Skype which will only work if your internet is really fast...

I just don't understand why people buy them? The games cost more, the updates cost money - free on the PC, the cheats doesn't work - like Skyrim on the PC or Xbox..., they heat up like exhaust manifolds and burn down like the pancakes due to poor design and cheap parts....

They want £400 for that + subscription crap, where is you can get a decent gaming PC for £600-£800 - [even cheaper without the monitor] these days which will last you for years and you can do many other things on the PC as well not just play games from the disc and watch a TV...

P.S. I build computers, including the Gaming computers. I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the PC hardware...

as jay mentioned, like windows 8, its simplification for the masses.

i will hold my hands up and admit i havnt played pc games for a good few years, but found them quite a faf as you had to install specific drivers, then sometimes certain games wouldnt run with certain hardware configurations etc. then you had to install the game, set up the keyboard/mouse or gamepad, tweak the sound and graphics. it often took a good half hour or so to get it all up and running.

yes you can get a decent gaming PC for £600-£800, but that initial outlay is more than the most expensive consoles so it puts people off. then you need to factor in speakers and a decent monitor, which are pretty pricey unless you hook it up to your TV and use that.

at least with a console, you buy the game and it will work. that is what some people want.

PC's are far superior, everyone knows that. but for ease of use, a console wins.

Wasn't impressed from what I've heard about it either tbh. Just seems to be cramming in more shit features that aren't needed just to lure people in. I also heard that they are going to start charging you to play second hand games, how that will work I'm not sure but seems like a few bad moves have been made.

PC gaming is good when you have a clue what you are doing and the software functions as it should. The number of times I've bought a PC game only to endure a complete bloody mission to get it working is countless. I shouldn't need a diploma in computer science just to install a game. I just want to play a game. For example I installed XCOM onto my last PC only for the whole computer to die an instant death on the first play of it. God knows what it upset but it was catastrophic. I have since vowed to keep it simple - games machine is for games, PC is for PC stuff.

This one machine to do everything crap is all very good in theory but they are going into overkill with the latest consoles.

I tough the said 512 my bad, jesus 8gb is some bump up.

Wow 8Gb. I used to have the hard drive that big in 1997 -) The cost of the 8Gb SSD compared to 64Gb is about £10 if you buy in bulk, such a shame that Microsoft saved £10 and just put 8Gb instead of 64Gb...

A lot has changed since! I hear many people complaining about it, but personally never had any problems. Yes I have to adjust the keyboard\mouse but as far as I know you can also plug a joystick/steering wheel in to the USB and have fun as well. The graphics card and the drivers might cause problems indeed, but it doesn't mean that you have to upgrade them. You can keep the version of the driver you get with the CD when you bought your graphics card and that will be a very stable one.

To keep it simple and stable all you have to do is use the PC just for games and nothing else, when you start using multiple programs, browse the internet, catch malware/viruses you end up with loads of problems. Install a second windows on your PC just for gaming - and it will make such a big difference, no Antivirus, Office, etc.. just games!

For example I play ETQW pretty often - and I have installed Windows XP on a separate partition just for this game - basic drivers (no printer/webcam/bluetooth/wi-fi, etc.) a game and nothing else at all. It didn't cause my ANY problems for over 2 years now.

If you PC burned out when you started the game - most likely your PSU or the Graphics card overloaded/overheated once you started the game - it wasn't a software problem - just like Xbox overheats and fail - the PC can do the same. If the gaming PC is properly build using special hardware for it - it will never overheat or cause you any problems!

In your case you started the game - any game require a lot of CPu/GPU resources and your PSU/CPU or GPU could simply fail - most of the time your PC is on IDLE, barely using 5% of your CPU speed, when you start the game or any heavy application like Video converter for example it goes up to 100% and heats up a lot/consume more electricity - thats where you most likely experience the PC to freeze or in some cases to fail completely, you can't blame the games for it - it's like saying I crashed my car because the race track is not straight.....

Was it an HP computer by any chance? I bet it wasn't designed for gaming in any way...

What I'm trying to explain here is if one build a proper PC, test it and set it up for you - and you only use it for games - you'll never experience any problems!
Yes the PC can be a bit of a hassle, but it's well worth it! Especially with the modern games, the console will never be better than the PC for graphics or sound for example - it's just a very cheap version of a PC with special software to simply run games or in the case with new Xbox use skype, watch TV, etc... But they lost the plot here, it's not a gaming console anymore, it's a mini PC, running a 64bit AMD CPU, which is a PC architecture - that means that Xbox and the PC games will be VERY similar to made, but the Xbox is about 10 times slower than my current CPU/GPU - that would mean that the game developers will be limited to the Xbox hardware limitations AGAIN when developing games...

8GB isn't the hard drive, its the Ram, and its DDR5 running at 5500MHz. I haven't had a console in ages and all my gaming is on pc. You know at the minute we only have access to DDR3 with the average being used is 1600 while some may use 2133mhz. In the ram department,at least for the next few months,it is quite high spec. Only our GPU's have GDDR5. Besides, what game do you know that uses 8GB of ram?
No details on the HDD yet other than its 500GB

I think gaming consoles have their place even though games will play better, look and sound better on PC. You have to remember your average joe won't even know where to look for drivers, they'll think Steam is a problem they have to overcome and the difference's between GPU's,PSU's and CPU's mean as much to them as the composition of the minerals in an asteroid do to us.

Its for the people who aren't bothered with spending a few hours researching PC parts, let alone taking on to build one,or paying the massive price tag on over-rated alienware machines.

Don't get me wrong, I love PC gaming and I just built a new one for myself recently (finally) and I love it but I can understand where others are coming from.

As for consoles holding back games,I completely agree, apart from a select few we are still looking ports that are no better looking than Crysis 1. But at the same time they have to keep the prices down to appeal to the masses,so putting a 670 into it just won't make it viable.

Whats your current build by the way?

Oh right! I thought that's 8Gb SSD -) The microsoft is too greedy to put in the SSD -))))))))

There is no current DDR5 for sale on the market, nor DDR4 - the DDR4 will be coming out for sale next year only. The reason all the RAM has such long DDR3 stagnation is because there is no point for modern CPU's with Memory Controller integrated inside the chip, to have very fast RAM. There is no middleman anymore (chipset) thus making direct link between the RAM and CPU, where is the difference in speed between 1333Mhz and 2333Mhz is less than 5%, it's a waste of time and money to buy very expensive RAM. Yes the DDR4 is coming next year, but the main reason for that in my opinion is that they switch to new level Nn RAM architecture and it will be cheaper for them to make DDR4 rather than DDR3 and they will consume less power, however the initial cost will be higher than DDR3 RAM.

I've just read about the PS4 and looks like Both PS4 and new Xbox will have very similar hardware, both will definitely get AMD CPU with integrated APU (graphics chips), thus having no dedicated RAM they need as fast RAM as possible and looks like they will put GDDR5 in total of 8Gb for both CPU and GPU usage. I believe if the resolution will stay at 720p only then no more than 1500 Mb of Video RAM will be needed for the graphics chipset and the rest will be used by the CPU - very clever that is, also as the GDDR5 has dropped in price a lot, it's been on the market for a long time since 2008 and HD Radeon 4870, in fact I used to have this card in 2008 -)))))

I doubt the price of the game will have something to do with the consoles, in fact they will level the price of the console game and the PC game in order to get more profit - the consoles don't do ANY good for the PC gamers, they ruin the games, limit the graphics/sound/size of the game...

According to the world's leading analysts in the PC industry, starting from 2015 the Gaming computers will be more popular choice (in the world) than the gaming consoles, according to the recent trends more and more people buy PC's for gaming!!! That also explains why new generation consoles have x86 CPU!!!

My Current PC is pretty old now and probably need an upgraded graphics card -)

Overclocked 2500K - 5.2Ghz - 4 Cores (the best gaming CPU so far, as the i7 is a complete waste of money for gaming)
Noctua N14 cooler
SSD Samsung 128Gb, SSD Sandisk 64Gb for HDD cache, 3x1Tb Samsung 7200RPM
Asus z68 pro gen3
8Gb DDR3 2000Mhz Corsair
2x6950, 2Gb Video RAM Crossfire
Corsair 850W - 95% Efficiency
Gaming SoundCard X-Fi Forte 7.1 - 64Mb Sound RAM, EAX 5.0 support - you will never get sound like this on any console!
Beyerdynamics DT 990 PRO 250 Ohm Headphones, Handmade in Germany.

If anyone here is thinking about a decent Gaming computer just PM me.
