Something different. A tale about a car lost and forgotten

Hi there. I am JW and owner of this vehicle :) Meantime started her for first time. But had no fuel in the lines, fuel levels in carb bowls not aligned, no choke. but she runs!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOFf-07zIuA&edit=vd Short 2nd vid: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iKvS-dwWouo

Here is a photo: long bolts everywhere now, 3 are shortened

    2E FE build

Discovered they are not to short, but the copper HG and expanding of head on heating pulled the thread out of the block from 1 bolthole. The short rear bolts have a shorter flexing effect and thus pulled out the thread. Fortunately the bolthole in block wich is very deep, is pulled out. Will...

ep70 custom NA engine build (many many pics inside, be warned!)

First problems: bubbles air in coolant... After retorquing head discovered a loose headbolt... To short... damn

    2E FE build

Yes, 85 rear and 100 front. It went about 8mm in the block, and with first assembling had not the feeling the bolts where too short. But threaded holes are deep enough for 100mm rear so will do that. Head must go off and cleaned and so on, maybe new HG. (have another one in copper)

    2E FE build

Thanks for tips. Used hylomar, and it is good stuff: because the head was virtually air tight, with one or more completely loose headbolts!!! Damn. Tried to retorque the bolts but with the 3rd bolt discovered the problem. Anyone here: what are the Headbolts lenghts ? The front are 100mm and...

    2E FE build

No the car has all suspension mods allready, koni shocks and so on. But... discovered a problem today; there is air bubling in the coolant, damn. Not much but still. We will retorquing the head, if its still bubling another headgasket has to go on.

    2E FE build

Did today a first drive with it. Had to be careful engine must break in first. But when accelarating from 2000 revs, 2nd gear, the front weels started to spin and torque steering. Incredible smooth running engine it is now. Allmost silent when warm an at idle. (750 revs)

Got an skool HKS powerfilter. Just painted it. Busy with radiator mounting, fuel pump issues (need a extra inline FP) and other problems to solve.

    2E FE build

:haha: Smoking Jamaicans dont show their stuff on i-net Used the 2EE gasket as moulding for HG, added only 1 extra waterhole pass through on cil 4. 2EE and 4EFE share the same HG design

    2E FE build

I wanted first a 5EFE in the EP71. With dismantling the bought engine discovered the damage on the crank, bearings and 1 rod, 1 journal completely melted, so with that knowledge did not want to regrind the 5E crank. I was screwed with that engine. Then i putted the 5e head just for one moment...

Thanks! The crankshaft was in a very good shape, could be re used. (all journals -0.01mm) Polished the journals with 1000 grain waterproof sandpaper & thin oil to allmost high gloss: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-BCT3XKXK.jpg Ignition is from 5EFE, complete engine loom from a EP81 is braided...

ep70 custom NA engine build (many many pics inside, be warned!)

Bored & Honed the 2E block to fit the 74mm 5EFE pistons, so it is now as a 4E 1334cc's because the 2E had 73mm pistons

    2E FE build

The engine block is bored and twice honed, the first machine shop did the job not well enough, a friend rehoned it nice and tidy, fortunately the first honed it slightly smaller as had to be (2E is 73mm, 5E pistons need 74mm, honed to 73.98mm, now it is 74.04, exactly 0.08 mm piston play) Some...

Yes have a simple narrow band check AF meter build in dash, but should get a wide band indeed. I checked the former setup (carb and catalist! ) with a AF meter, discovered it was not the best anymore after 160000km's pulled about 50 hoses off the old carb setup! Will post some pics of it. :-)

    2E FE build

Thanks ! HG is of 0.8mm coppersheet, sawed it out and dremeled the edges. After that annealed with butane torch. Now the engine will have a CR of 1:10 The pump is a small cinqecento unit (denso!) tried to mount it all in the tank but the 45mm hole is still to small. Someone else on dutch forum...

    2E FE build

Well well, what a huge responding on this thread. Anyhow, did some further things on the engine. Made my own copper HG, pressed 4E pistons on the 2E rods, ordered ACL duraglide bearings, polisched crank tappets, and assembled the lot. Placed fuel pump on firewall instead of in...
