I think some on stupidly low rubber with rock hard coileys are the way forwards :)
If you like driving something that has utterly shit handling, crack on. The Starlet handling is shonky as it is, you're certainly not going to help matters by having massive wheels and overly hard suspension. It's your car though, so do with it what you want, just don't say we didn't warn you. :homer:

the way forward in what respect? They throw the handling of the car off and make it go slower I wouldnt really call that the way forwards.

Also the mismatched look might be unusual on mad looking jap drift machines but on a starlet it looks like you couldnt afford a full set of wheels. Perhaps getting a set of 4 different 22's might be the way forward :p

Whatever floats your boat.

Wowww.

Really, really like them...

On the road? or track? on the road you'll get sick of it in a week, it'd be more comfortable getting a kick in the nuts rather than 17's and rock hard coileys on a gt.

It's really just what I want to acheive.

The arches obviously take the wheels, and they'd only be 7.5" wide, with all four corners rolled and flared.

Its in the pipe, and it'll work once acheived :)

I think starlets look silly with big wheels on them. Plus the rubbing and the other work you'd have to do to make it 'work' doesn't make it sound that great, especially when it'll look stupid at the end anyway....

Plus, rock hard suspension and really low profile styres is going to be AWFUL to drive...

It's your car though :)

i personally think youd be happier selling the car?

buying something that big wheels fits on? perhaps a bmw honda(they wont like these plans either) but yeah if you go euro they will like you.... alot.

if its about looks and wheels, then buy a golf or leon or 320d or similar.

you talked about selling the car previously, you obvious have had the same thoughts!
im not surprised noone was interested in buying it, apart from the "choice" looks your claims that its the cleanest car ever wont really encourage a potential owner who instantly thinks, that the car needs a lick of paint whether its clean or otherwise.

seriously mate, consider your options before you plough more money into something that will return little to no credit and you will end up selling for a BM eventually anyway¬!

small sharp and cheap.

thats what i/we own thats why i/we like it. a car that is cheap to tune compared to others etc.

have a look at the money and ask yourself will you ever retrieve the money spent on rolled archs or paint when you finally break or sell up?

cant see it.

im sure the ideas and dream is there clear as day in your mind, i dont doubt that for one second, my only question is are you doing this to the correct car?

Thanks for the advise, Phil.

Got to admit, that's one of the most comprehensively written posts with real world experience and information relating directly to the issue.

Good man!

I will most certainly bare your thoughts in mind :)

The way I see it is that you should only use 17" if your car "supports" it.

I find that for a tyre combo to work well on a car, you need some sidewall on the tyres.
It seems like around +/- 95mm of sidewall seems to be an ideal combination for handling.

For Starlet, using 195/50/15 or 205/45/16 gets very close to that 95mm sidewall while remaining close the the standard rolling radius.

But for 17", you need something like 215/35/17 to stay close to the standard rolling radius.
With only 75mm of sidewall available, you pretty much throw handling out the window and it will be a harsh ride.

I have a new VIP Project going that will be using 20" wheels, but even that still have 85mm of sidewall. :)

Ive got 17's at the moment which were on the car when I bought it. The car has standard shocks at the moment and only rubs when 3+ people are in the car.

Tbh the wheels look far too big and it tram lines something chronic. Ive got a set of 14's on the way and some BC Coilovers coming.

Im sure the 14's will look far better but not sure until I fit them lol
