2nd hard drive issue

Wonder if any could give me some suggestion on how to sort this out. I have another hard drive which i like to add to my system so i dont clutter my primary drive and slow it down. EG, music, movies and other storage.

The issue im having is my pc dosnt seem to boot when its plugged in. it halts after the bios does the checks. I have a NDAS network drive and it runs fine when its running of that but i need it conncted to the pc internally. The new hard drive is Maxtor DiamondMax21 (80GB).

Its probably due to the jumpers on the hard drive. If you look at the connectors on the hard drive you will see a wee plastic clip connected to pin. There is 3 settings master,slave,auto or something along those lines set yours to the auto setting.

The reason your system wont but is probable due to the fact that both your hard drives are set to master, so they are conflicting on boot.

This what i tried 1st drive, master and 2nd slave, that didnt work, then i swoped them around, still the same, then i done both jumpers to cable select. That didnt work.
Then i tried i just plugged in the new disk in only with primary disconncted. still dosnt boot.

Well it wont boot on its own with your primary one disconnected because the operting system isnt installed on the new drive???
Is the secondary hard drive being detected in the Bios?? It sounds to me like you have either a dodgy hard drive or dodgy cable. Bestway to test this is swap test the 2 hard drive cable and see if any of them can pick up the secondary hard drive if they cant its the hard drive is the problem.

Well the system just halts when the bios loads, it finds the drive then freezes. i know theres nothing on there so it should state booting no operating found after the bios finishes it checks. Ive tried all the ide cables. still the same. have a relative pc, guna try it on that.

Seems to boot up well on my other machine. Is it possible to get a ide to scsi cable? as there are two scsi ports availble?

sorted it, had to change some auto detect option to manual,as auto detect wasnt picking it up on the right ide port and jumper selection.
