hey, im a bit of a noob to this site. been on ages but i hardly post, i just read through threads and build ups.

anyway i have a starlet thats getting a unique engine conversion and should make one hell of a car when its done.

the car did have a 3sgte in it, was the second in the country to be done but the garage did have a clue and the job even tho it made the car fast s hell was a total abortion of an engine conversion what was dangerous really.

i gave up on the car because i was in love with my ek9 and still am but i decided on something new so i spoken to the nicest guy you could meet call paul woods of woodsport. a mr2 specialist base in durham and after discussing the v6 engine i decided the 2zzge would be a better engine for what i wanted to use the car for, plus i didnt fancy messing with the exterior of the car.

here is a link to the build if anyone is interested.

thanks, chris.

Welcome to the site mate

cant view the link you posted, you need to be logged in. Post some details here so we can see it. Is it going to be turbo/supercharged? Should be an interesting project. My girlfriend was looking for a celica and we test drove a few of the 190bhp versions and they were not bad. One with a straight through exhaust and filter sounded great and went okay. She ended up getting a 140hp version as she wasnt too pushed on performance.

It would certainly be nippy in a starlet, interesting to see how nippy.

there is a possible supercharger plan but i want to stay na :p

going to get lightened flywheel, lsd and new clutch soon. maybe go with a high comp na build on itbs, could supercharge it for more power for less money but wheres the fun in that?

EDITED - removed street racing reference

one lad said to me "oo a tdo4 starlet would piss all over it when its done" thats probly true but he is missing the whole point of the build, its going to be a total different car to a gt turbo. the driving style, the drivability, the noise to your normal big powered starbo will all be different, your are going to need to be in the right gear for the power of the engine, not put ur foot down and let the boost do the rest. na power, its the way forward!

the cars should go pretty well when its finished, 190bhp. its got a custom cold air ram filter and custom exhaust manifold to a 2.1/4'' system so it should sound nice on the cam crossover and high revs :D:D

also the engine was design to pull along a celica which weighs a lot more than a starlet :p

Hey Chris, fair play for trying something different, I am sure many will look on with interest. As said it should be interesting to see what the power is like in a starlet. The NA thing wouldnt be for me, I dont get anything from driving tame cars, I like something that has a bit of a kick which is why Hondas are not my cup of tea but my girlfriends celica is really nice to drive and great handling - its slow as hell though.

Does the 2zzge engine suffer from the same sludging issue as the 1zz? They have a history of dying due to oil starvation from blocked galleries. Also they burn oil at an alarming rate. I thought her engine was knackered as it was using 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles. I looked in the manual and it says this is normal... she is constantly filling it up. The 6 speed box in the celica is nice.

well iv seen paul woods work and he is fantastic on fitting big engines and even at low cost (i have a v6 engine conversion made by him for the mr2 )
paul is a great man he helps everybody just ask him and he helps
and i dont like the idea of a celica engine is a sh........t engine with a super charger or a turbo (it blows )so you need to change pistons and rods
we had one with a supercharger and when we reiced 190bhp on the dyno it blowed a piston

looks very very good mate! thumbs up for being different. id say if you didnt have any clue about a starlet, you would think the engine cam withg the car from factory! looks so OEM ! lol

i have to agree, they arent the best series of engine. for the work required id be gutted just to have one of those under the bonnet. i mean that with respect bud as thats just my opinion, no offence intended. :)

As said on uksc, it seems alot of work and alot of money?? to do the engine conversion when you could get much better results and would be cheaper i would imagine to just bolt up a td04 kit or even a hybrid ct9...

I would be wanting a supercharger to up the power and response i think, now that would be sweet but fair play for trying something new :)

just noticed what it looks like a cheap ebay fuel pressure regulator  i hope its not! after spending all that money, its silly to go for a cheap rrfpr :S

thanks for the welcomes :)

sure its just oem fpr painted green with a gauge fitted bud.

yeah i knew this conversion would upset some people and others would love it. i know turbo power would have been higher and cheaper but like i said its something new, different and what i like :p

dont get me wrong i love turbo power, im going to get a gtt r34 in the summer too hopefully once i sell the ek9 :)

yeah pauls work looks oem if not better in most cases ive seen , the guy has a lot of pride and passion in his work.

its 2003 engine and as far as im aware there isnt any oil surge or sludging problems. but yeah im sure they will burn a little oil being a high revving engine.

and no offence taken glanzanut, like i said i knew it wouldnt be everyones cup of tea but thanks for the feedback :p

Quality work and hats off to originality. Its great to see guys going in a different direction for a change. Not a fan of N/A unless is big capacity muscle cars but hey, it ain't my car and im sure when I finish my car and put up pics people won't like mine either. As long as your happy, thats all that matters
