3SGTE wall clearance

Hello All,

A friend is doing an engine rebuilt for his Rally asphalt celica GT4
he has bought some Wiseco .5 oversized pistons.
he is looking for recomended wall clearance, ring gap...

any idea ?

For competition, use a looser bore clearance then normal to fight heat build up, this way the rings will thank you, 60 - 70 percent of the heat carried out from the piston goes through the rings! So for the ring gaps, run wider then normal gaps. You should get a spec sheet with the pistons and rings to determine the right gap for each ring depending on your bore size. Good luck.

all the spec should be with the pistons as above they look like intructions, if not if they are like JE it will be on packaging in inch

IIRC there are variations of the 3S-GTE block, one type having thin cylinder walls and the other thick cylinder walls. Rumour has it that the thin wall blocks have a tendency to crack in high boost applications. However AFAIK there's no easy way to tell them apart, having the block measured with an ultrasonic thickness gauge is recommended to identify what you've got.

In fact my friend has a ST215 engine (3sgte from Caldina)
