the gearbox mounting have to add another bracket.

Custom mounting brackets has to be made on the two other sides. Its almost a straight forward thing on the timing belt side. The rear one, will be sitting on the horizontal crossmember.

There's a lot of info here

For all the effort involved ud probably be better off considering putting a diffrent engine in there other that a 4efte. Some problems will include, gear linkage, the starlet uses cables, the charade uses rods. clutch, the clutch in a starlet is hydrolic, th charade uses a cable. The overall dimensions of a charde and starlet a very close but the engine bay of a G201 charade is pretty big compared to a Starlet, for example a 4age will fit in without having to chop any chassis legs. So id imagine a 4agze would be ideal in it.

The standard HD-E engine in a detomaso is a very good engine, the standard internals are pretty strong, and responde well to being turbocharged. There arent that many off the shelf upgrade parts available engine wise tho.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread, but I've just spotted it and thought I'd add my thoughts, seeing as the thread you linked to is my build thread (notice the username in each forum?) :D

There were actually a few little things we found out after we'd already made modifications.

For example, I found out afterwards that I didn't need to change the engine mount on the timing belt side. Unfortunately, this was due to the lack of info at the time.

I think that having a complete Charade and a complete halfcut provided HUGE benefits, as did having a MIG welder on hand, along with air tools, etc.

The key to the conversion is to have all the tools and plenty of space. lol

If you or any other Charade owners are after any further info, feel free to shoot me an email and I'll be more than happy to offer whatever info I have.

Then again, you could turbo that Deto engine if you haven't already. Those things pack a pretty good punch!
