5a-fe engine conversion help

Hi I will be picking up a starlet sr in a couple of weeks after being in a friends with said conversion I'm looking for information on what is required to change up to the 1.5 ie apart from the engine of course do I need different manifolds, gearbox, clutch, wiring ecu or any other things I may have missed? If anyone can help will be much appreciated as already had a look for info but can't find much

As the 4e series are well tuneable, not many people bother with the converstion of a less powerful engine.
But with abit of research your bound to stumble over some information

Should have mentioned it is the 1.3 n/a that is in the car just now. Just don't fancy going the turbo route for reliability purpose.

If its the 5EFE (not 5AFE) you are talking about its an easy swap. The lad I know who did it on his 96 Sportif swapped engines and the ecu and it ran perfect. The SR had a few extras electrically so there could be a few problems, the transponder for the key was the main problem.

Yeh it is the 5efe lol got muddled up a bit! Thanks for the reply do u know if ur mate had to swap manifolds also or just use the 1.5 with the starlet manifolds? With the transponer in the key do u know how to get around this?? Was kinda hoping I'd have stumbled upon a detailed how to sort of guide but nothing guessing not to many people must do this conversion!

Its seldom done, a few on UKSC have done it so you may find more details on there. The transponder problem was cured by taking the transponder ring and transponder unit from the car the 5e engine came out of, and fitting it to his own car.

Exhaust mani of the 4e bolts up to the 5e head, just gets a bit tight under the sump.
