I think he was probably getting at the same point I was that the power does not match the times too well. fwd cars with 500hp that are setup properly here are running mid 9's. Ill be looking to crack the 10s this year with just over 300. 850hp just seems excessive for the times. Impressive power none-the-less.

Nice setups too. Makes me wanna hit the track again :drive:

To be honest with you I really don't think that's what he meant as monks views on really high powered fwd motors are pretty negative.....

And his quarter mile time isn't tv best at that power but imagine a rolling start take off. The power of that thing would rip a new arse hole to pretty much everything.

Let me put it this way...

What would a RWD vehicle of a similar weight and power run down a 1/4 mile? A fuckload faster than and FWD car would, that's for sure.

I can understand that it has been modified to a purpose (and done to a high standard at that), but that amount of power in something as light as a Starlet and FWD is a massive waste. I bet it wheelspins all the way up the drag strip.

But still hits at least 10's which is veyron terratory.

Some people get satisfaction out of achieving in a FWD car because they know it's a task and a half... I just wouldn't say it's a waste.

Blimey, impressive, but if I had put that much effort into a car I'd want to drive it for more than 40 seconds a year.

If you ever manage to make a drag machine like that and manage to keep it sticked on the floor :p without piss your pants once in every gear change then buy also a drag strip and drive it all the day up and down.:p

It has absolutely no appeal to me. I'm a fan of good old real motorsport that involves corners!

A space monkey could drive that car in a straight line. Each to their own though.

Whats harsh? There peoples views nothing really harsh though tbh.

Your right, they are peoples views, but i think the way their views are being brought across are a bit harsh....

disclaimer ive never ever taken a car down the strip.

but its pretty clear that some people can get off the line sharpish and can feel when to change gear and when to feed the throttle in. others.... are hilarious.

if i ever try it i plan to be hilarious. lol

i think alot of the fun in drag racing, is one car against another, and if you know two cars are evenly matched then its one driver vs the other!

its a good day out and it affordable compared to trackdays and the like.(in NI)

I myself love drag racing, i also love racing around corners as fast as possible. So you can say i like every form of racing to do with cars.

And to note, not every monkey around can drag race, it does require some form of skill, just not in the level of circuit racing obviously. to get times down to a minimum is challenging especially in high powered front wheel drive car when throttle balance becomes necessary etc...

engineering and fabricating efforts alone are worth lots of credit ,
lots of work there , but yeh when drag races are lost coz of 0.05 seconds its hardly money buisness lol !

It'd be nice to see you back to the strip Harry:)

We're trying hard to crack into the 10s, but its very difficult. So far my friend only tried it on one event, he had 4 attempts. The best was 11.585 secs with a 0-60ft of 1.99s (very bad) and 128.9mph
This was using M/T 23s, which are now completely shaved so will be putting on MH 24s. Perhaps its got too much power, even with a launch control its hesitating to get off the line as quick as it used to.
I hope one day we will manage a 60ft of 1.6secs like yours when you managed 11.2! It involves a lot of experimentation.

it does require some form of skill

I'd class it as common sense really!

The amount of money and blood spent on my own car, I could have probably made a car like that. I'm sure most people here could or have spent an equivalent, fabrication of components is far more expensive here.

As above, you can achieve those times with far less than 850bhp, thats common sense also.

It's a very good build, i like how you have fabricated your own mains girdle  I'm sure it was required at that power level for the downstairs to operate vibration free!

Have you tried a shortshifter?
