I wasnt involved in that decision. but it happened. and no matter how many times this dicussion is had its not going to change anything.
Its also irrelvant to the original topic, as that was about the hacking on the UKSC server, which at the moment to the more IT savvy users on here that it could have been done by anyone. And most people who run servers have unfortunately come under this sort of attack before from random hackers
I think the original topic covers alot more than just the finer details of the hack but also the coincidence of what was being pushed by socks very shortly thereafter.
And you say that nomatter how many times something is discussed it
wont change,
but if we are to believe you guys (that apparently aren't involved) yous are happy to continue as if no wrongdoing has taken place ?
so
what could change (not that you'd mind ofcourse) is that another group of members aside from yourselves could disagree on the running of ukso, take of a copy of ukso(which is a ripoff of UKSC) and slide all your members across to a new forum called something very similar, without the owners consent?
As you say no doubt quite correctly and i quote
"And most people who run servers have unfortunately come under this sort of attack before from random hackers"
Im not sure if running a server and owning a forum are one and the same but either way coming under attack from random hackers is not the same as having a website stolen.
UKSC/Geo was hacked, by rupert the bear for example.
that does not make UKSC/Geo fair game surely?
If i have a SKODA that i allow my mates to travel in with me for free everyday.
If that car develops a fault, do my friends have the right to take the SKODA, fix it, and assume ownership by calling her SKODO ?
and since right and wrong seems to have grown blurred in this thread i would like to clarify that NO, you could not take anything faulty or not and assume ownership by fixing it.
So aside from the Hack, (which seems more than coincidental) its wrong.
and for anyone who is getting all het up about exacting a response with finer details about who said what and what seemed to be good for the majority, i would remind you that those details are what has clearly fogged your judgement.
forget all the inner workings and see the big picture.
stealing my SKODA renaming her SKODO would afteral have been the best solution for my mates needing a lift, but anyone can see that assuming ownership is wrong.
Stealing through the majority vote or pier pressure is as wrong as it would be if you were stealing a perfectly operational/functioning website.
Step back seperate wrong from right and find away to sort it out.
Give Geo back the reigns on his website, dont undermine him again until he is ready to step aside, and rename that forum unders its true and glorious title of UKSC.
LONG live TGTT
If anyone tried a coup like this here i hope the malteasers/irish and UK boys would kick up an insane fuss until it was returned to its right owner/name.
