Just throw some mesh over the inlet,

Never had any probs with mine doing this and it sounds great spooling too!!

I took off my compressor housing on my ct9 the last day,

Ive ran it with nothing at all over the inlet and there isnt a mark on any of the blades..

obviously you dont live where i do :p i can hear stones and stuff banging the underneath of my car some of which could easy fook the turbo IMO not worth the risk.

ok, removed aircon and have a meshed inlet. want a filter up front behind the bumper but not sure what the best method or filter is!?!?

2 ways i can see; off turbo with 90 degree bend then filter straight on the end or 90 degree, then another 90 degree so pipe runs parallel to the rad then filter on the end?

wich way would be best?

also which is the best filter to use in both situations? obviously some will fit and some wont. just dont want to buy the wrong filter.

also what is the best relocation pipe sizes? looks as though you need a 35mm off the turbo then up to whatever size your filter is!

any help and espacially PICS appreciated :)

seems to b soooo many options now and sooo many topics on FILTER LOCATIONS, i started getting confused

people do say that Apexi is the Best One.

but hks is best for fitting i think!

I agree with Akki

For a front mount, the HKS looks to be the best, partly because it looks quite flat faced

I've read loads of bad reviews on the HKS filter though..

Yea the HKS filter has great flow propertys but bad Filtration propertys, IMO your better off going with a differant filter, But it's your Engine,

Basically try and find a filter that will fit, Blitz SUS one will not fit i'd say as that's the one i have and it's huge

brilliant Dave, nice one. as im doing it like this might just get a universal one and make the adapter and brackets myself!

what pipe sizes and angles did you use fo your setup Dave? guess it wont fit in facing forwards?

dave..would that setup work with the air con still in???

need to remove aircon. i looked at loads of ways to do it and tremoving it is the best way. its easy enough to remove and put back if need be. mine was leaking anyway so wasnt worth getting regassed unless i removed it and re-sealed it anyway

How would you hold the mesh in place? What type of mesh would you need and can I go out now, take my airfilter off, mesh my turbo and be problem free?

Oh and if this would cause problems what sort can I expect?

In your dusty area matey I think you would get trouble with dust etc getting sucked into the turbo.

How about if I could get some sort of material similar to what my induction kit is made of to cover the inlet? I'm assuming that people are talking about removing the airfilter to get rid of all the piping that goes with it?

Yeh 3sgte has his air filter in a silly place! But he obviously hasn't had any problems, but wait til he has to go through a puddle! The hks shroom will soak up all the water and add like 15kgs to the car :p

Why don't you just try meshing the turbo instead of relocating the air filter? Theres far less chance of any shite getting in that way and i'm sure it will make it hella more responsive!

i wish people would talk from experience and stop assuming ;)

ive had the car 2 and half months and have driven it pretty much everyday, and i got it back when that period of raining heavily everyday during the summer period, drove through big puddles etc....... i have had no problems at all... cleaned it for the 1st time last week and was hardly even dirty.........

so my friend where exactly is your theaory coming from? silly position? what bad experiences have you had with it to make such an opinion? please share :)

Would that offer any improvement over an air filter though? Can you see any problems that might cause?

Sorry if I sound like a mong. All this turbo malarkey is new to me!

im talking about my filter position.... i have an HKS shroom filter located exactly how "cal" has been talking about....... very close to the ground..... about say 7inches off the ground.

On the subject of what your talking about,
You wont really notice power gains even if it slightly increases response of the turbo... thats all you'll really benifit from....... if anything do as turbodave said and mesh it if you really dont want a filter... i dont really see a point though... filter relocated where there is constant cold air flow away from heat in my opinion you cant go wrong.........

mine has a samco coming straight out the turbo with a custom made/bended pipe off that heading to the floor....... best place for cold air as the lower you are the less heat there is and all the air rushes straight under the car when your driving.......
