seen a few puzzles on ere thought id add my own lol.

3 students living together go to a second hand shop, see a tv and ask the guy "how much?", "30 quid" the guy says, they chip in 10 quid each and are away with the telly. The manager comes out and ays to the guy working there "that tv was reduced to 25 quid it had a sticker on the side" gives him 5 pound coins and tells him to give them thier change, he walks out and spots the sticker on the ground but the managr is watching so he has to give them somthing back, walks over and gives them 1 pound bac each and puts 2 pounds in his pocket, the 3 guys have now paid 9 pounds each. 3x9=27! 27+the 2 poundsthe guy put in his pocket =29pounds

where is the other pound?

The problem is the statement "the 3 guys have now paid 9 pounds each" which is untrue and came from no where. As 25/3 is not equal to 8 but 8.333... so getting the extra £1 at the end adds each students contribution to 9.333.. which multiplied by 3 = 28 + 2 in guys pocket = 30 :)

we had this about a year ago, and yeah its just a mistake in the statement.

clever wording basically!

puzzle over lol NEXT

its not a mistake in the wording! if the 3 guys pay 10 pounds each then recieve a pound back each, then that means they have payed 9 pounds each. so it didnt come out of no where and ther isnt a mistake in the wording

Look at it like this if the statement was true take away £1 pound from £9 which makes £8 each (before the extra £1 is given) multiply it 3 which gives £24 so theres still £1 missing because the original statement is incorrect and has removed the £1 by not adding the £0.33 to each.

Hope that makes sense to you, Really old riddle and very simple.

they start out paying 10 pounds and then are givin 1 pound back that makes 9 not 8
