Reason it's still cheap is that they haven't got any of this Euro shite (yet). Therefore, the opportunity for them to bump up their prices and hide it under the currency changeover hasn't happened.

I went about 12 years ago, and it was a nice place, if a little commercialised. As long as you're prepared to get hassled by hawkers, drink beer (efes), eat kebabs (proper ones, not the greasy shite that we have), buy cheap tat and haggle, then you'll have a ball!

I came back a week ago from a place called Side, its about an hour away from antalya, we stayed 5 star all inclusive for 2 weeks there was 5 of us and it cost £850 per person including flights, I only took 40 quid spending money.
Was a good laugh, defently recommend it!!!

My girlfriend and me got back from Gumbet (costal area by Bodrum), two weeks ago. Loved every min of it. Weather was 30-40 all week. As mentioned you do get hassled abit from sellers, soon get used to it. Food and Drink good value as mentionded Efes is a fgood value beer.

We had some good trips, boat trip, also Kos is a 1 hour ferry trip a way so we headed over there for the day.

Def recommend it.

I'm going next tuesday with 4 of my mates! Going to Alanya which is about 90 minutes drive from Antalya Airport. The place is like paradise. Massive beaches, gorgeous weather. And yeah it is cheap because they are still on Lira as currency and not Euro's. I think some travel companies recognise this and put the flight prices up accordingly.

ive been to bodrum a few years back and it was spot on, also me and the missus have just booked to go to marmaris at tye end of august because the euro zone countries were way overpriced, i think you should give turkey a try mate you will be surprised!

I went in 2007 and i dont really wanna go back again, but it will prob be different for you.

Weather was perfect, so hot everyday but i just dont like how obsessed the local people are with young boys, and having my 3yr old son with me at the time made it quite awkward walking around etc

Also when i went i think i actually lost weight our hotel was all inclusive but the food was not a great selection. We ended up eating out alot (but the food was nice when eating out)

Was also very disapointed at the beach was metres long (the sanded area) and not very appealing.

We stayed in marmaris btw.

But then i've heard people have been and loved it and with you not having children i'm sure yours will be a diff kind of hol :p

I went in 2007 also and went to Marmaris.

Stayed in a 5* all inclusive hotel called Grand Pasa, it was really nice but I didn't really like Marmaris itself. Also the Mosques will play prayers early in the morning.

Me and my mate only reall cared about the hot weather and hotel though. We did rent out a boat and pretty much went half way to Kos, hah.

P.S. Efes is nice.

Personally, I wouldn't go to Marmaris unless you're just going for sun and beer. I went to Ölüdeniz, which has a corking beach 15 mins away on the Dolmus (mad Turkish mini-bus), and has the market town of Fethiye a few miles away where you can do some serious haggling and catch numerous boats to the outlying islands.

Mind you, as I said earlier, this was 12 years ago (when I thought the only way to go on holiday was via a package tour), so it might well be shite now... The only way to travel for me now is to don my backpack and head off into the blue yonder...
