Big end shell...

Quest a quick question, my bottom end is knocking like f#%k, so I'm guessing it's the big end shells, if I just replace the shells, and grind the rods will it be fine? Or other parts will need to be replace? Or just get a new engine? thanks.

you dont grind the rods. you would need to grind the crank.

drop the sump off and take the caps off to see what damage has been done. if your lucky and the crank journals look to be fine then you may get away with a new set of bearing shells.

chances are you are going to have to take the engine out

thanks bud, but what about the pistons? would they be alright?

hard to tell mate. do a compression test and see what you get. if the crank needs grinding and you take the engine out then you may as well replace the headgasket while your at it. when the head it out just pop the pistons out and check them if you want.
