Burning smell

Hi guys

i have a burning smell coming from the front of the engine, very evident on idle after a drive.

Its not an oil or fuel burning kind of smell. Just a burning smell.

Im thinking this could be the fan belt? My car is just past 60000km and I bought the fan belt kit a while ago, never got round to getting it fitted.

Any ideas?

check along the obvious wiring routes incase a section is close to something warm or has access where it can rub through. i'd also check for anything lodged or pressured against something around the block itself....check for small dead things like hedgehog parts etc--never know may of clipped something that your recooking when the engine gets to temps. if its not anything obvious and it only does it when just sitting on idle i'd suggest a thorough clean of the engine bay and see if the smell dissapears my firend.

cheers for the help mate but i can't find anything.

Its hard to tell what it smells like, I guess it could be a rubber type of smell. Its definately not fuelling though.

Cambelt is getting replaced on wednesday, it just scares me that im driving around and possibly harming my engine:confused:

Sounds silly but have you ran over a carrier bag? sometimes they can stick to the downpipe and its an awful smell when they are heated up/melted! happened to me a while back-maybe worth a check!

I actually did a couple of weeks ago but would the smell last this long?

The car only smells after it has been given a good thrash which would explain that.

There isn't any bags underneath but if the plastic has burned on to the downpipe then Im guessing it may take a while before it goes anyway?

Lets hope so.

I did intially think this may be the cause but because of the length of time its taken to clear I dismissed it. My car is running normal at the moment, so i'll just jope it goes.

Thanks for the help

No worries mate, when your engine is cool enough might be an idea to have a prod around to c if there is small traces left over.
