Just a general topic to see what everyones idea on it was. Say you mechanically inspected it, looked good along with no issues.

When it comes to the deal, they only a V5 and a couple of MOT's. No history basically, would that put you off buying a car?

I think if a car was bog standard i would feel more at ease, the problem with these types of cars is that you have no idea what boost people have been running them at.

If it was off a trusted member i'd have no issues:cool:

^^^^^ x2 same I wouldn't buy a moded car cause yea don't no what the old owner was doig with it so that is way I got a standerd glanza 3 years on still no bothers with her and long my it last...

i think it depends on what kind of car.

performance car cheap run a round.

A cheap run a round i wouldnt be too bothered tbh but a performance car i would be put off.

Say it was a performance car because for a run around i wouldnt be bothered either. Something thats going to replace your pride and joy.

Theres also the point of selling the car, its going to make it harder for you to sell it on with no history, or maybe im to foward thinking lol

im with the above if it was standard as long as it was mechanically ok i wouldnt mind.

would be very cautious in buying a modified car without history of the vehicle.

Depends on how much it's worth. A couple of grand, then no point asking, as someone will always buy it back, but still get it HPI checked. If it's worth £10k, then yes, get it checked over so you avoid losing a lot of money.

The best route for genuine peace of mind is to use an acredited vehicle inspection company. They start with an HPI check, and then give it a full mechanical check and road test. This will highlight any problems, and can either give you a chance to walk away, or a good bargaining tool when buying. Yes, it'll cost you a couple of hundred quid, but at least you'll know...

I bought my MR2 with very little history. As an import, it didn't come with any history from japland. The only things it came with was a few reciepts for some buys and bobs that the previous owner had bought. He looled after the car himself so there wasn't any garage reciepts.

I am much the same, I just keep reciepts for all the parts I buy etc.

As long as there is no crash damage, im happy, everything else can be fixed very easilly.

History means nothing to me, everything can be faked so from a personal view waste of time really.

I bought my GT as a stolen recovered with very thick blue smoke bellowing out of the exhaust. Put a steering column, lock set and turbo on it and its been mint ever since, like Rory says, everything apart from body damage can be fixed.

Always been in the mind of buying cars with history etc but i bought my Starlet without it. Just a couple MOTs and some purchases for it. I HPi'd it before hand though and the rest is history. But if and when i come to sell it i'll have more history for it. Getting a Toyota service book and service stamps etc etc

We all ask about history when buying a car, personally im not to fussed on history but alway's do a check to see if its stolen recovered or finance owed...
I brought my starlet with only a few old M.o.T's but in the 2years have made my own history for it while i have owned it...

Chap on another forum sold his civic type R with full honda history, later the new owner found out it was all falsly done an went back to him about it.
But he was also under the impresion it was legit so they were both had on it..

I wouldnt buy any performance car without history an receipts..how many times have people sold forged engines only to find out when they crack it open it all factory...Its not something you can check on the spot too..

It'd all depend on what car it was, how much it was worth and how much they was selling for.

For example a 10k car for 5k aslong as it's not been crashed or finance still owed it'd be worth it!

If it was a diesel I wouldnt really worry about the history tbh..
