An Amp isnt needed no, but if you do add one into the setup, it sound's sooooo much nicer. That way you can get a sub aswell (nothing too big is needed unless your the kinda person that likes to show off). I found when I ran 2 speakers up front and the 2 6x9's on the parcel shelf, without the Amp the headunit struggled on some songs at higher volumes. You'll find this out yourself though and if you feel the need for an Amp, it really isnt a hard job to install.

what kind of amp would you go for??

Your really wont want the extra weight .. Just stick with the 6 x 9's trust.. When you start gettin more power from the car, the sound of the turbby spinning is more sexual than any bassey tune!.. haha

I was looking at pioneer also!

My amp's a 1000W Toxic (TX-1000) Didn't cost too much and is 4 channel (you can run the 6x9's + Sub off the amp and then front speakers will run off the headunit still). Sound's very nice indeed to be honest.

Agreed with the sound of the Turbo spooling :p I never fit my amp to the Starlet because I loved listening to the noises it made lol.

And I also have the Pioneer 6x9's and can recommend them aswell.

www.caraudiosecurity.com is a good website to look at. They have a few packages in there aswell with everything you need including wiring etc...
