Car overheating!!!

Right, I have kept the thermostat out and decided to take off the top radiator hose. Started the engine and guess what, no coolant coming from either the rad or hose. My uncle was supposed to change the water pump on Sunday but I was away to a football match. He said he changed it but surely if he had I would have water continuously flowing out of something. Going to change it myself and see what happens.

its not a 5 minute job to change. i would very much doubt he would have changed it in the time it takes for a football match to run

I was away from 9 in the morning and back at 9 at night so I've no idea what he had done. Hopefully I can sort this problem out tomorrow. Dying to go a drive!

running lean enough to overheat the engine..? i doubt it. he'd have got a code:25 if that was the case..
this one is a real bummer. let's review your troubleshooting again;
- swapped the coolant pump: no change
- swapped the thermo/ran without one: no change
- flushed the rad: no change
- redid the head, valves, gasket: no change
- tested the rad fan, it works: no change

Well I am going to get my uncle to change the pump again cause it is a pain in the hoop to get at, but this time I will be there to make sure he has done it! There is no water circulating so it can only be the pump surely. Plus turning it seems very easy compared to the pump I have in the house. Let's say it is the water pump and that fixes the overheating, but would the car still idle at 2K and surge from 1.5K to 2K when the engine is warmed up, plus fuel cut? It done that just after the car overheated and before I changed the head gasket to let you guys know...

Idle control valve and vacuum leak.
If you rev the car to about 4000rpm does the water then shoot out of the rad pipe when it is of?
Some cars do not push coolant at idle speeds.

Guess what guys? The water pump is off and all the fins on the pump have disappeared. Don't know what my Uncle done on Sunday but he was adamant he changed the pump. He is a moron. Well new pump is going on now so we shall wait and see how it turns out. Hopefully this idling thing will disappear. I noticed that a ground wasn't secured on the ICV bolt properly, would that be my cause to the idling? Just waiting for everything to get put back together now so fingers crossed!

Got the little fella fixed yesterday. Seems like it is running pretty sweet now!

glad you got it sorted. what personally works for me when troubleshooting is to create and follow a check-list similar to what i tried to list a few posts back. this way, you can more or less limit the possibilities and narrow down your solutions to specifically target the problem..
next time, ask us.. not your uncle.. :D lol
