Careful on the roads..

Yes someone was defnately looking down on me that night. If the car had not been lifted off me so quickly i wouldn't be here.

And yes im no angel i do admit i give the go pedal a push sometimes but like you said the majority of us do it even though we shouldn't. I have made a statement to the policee but i can't really help as i don't remember anything from the crash or the 15 minute drive beforehand. The police said they may be charging me but they said nothing is set in stone so don't think about it until any paperwok comes.

I was gutted about the car when i first found out as i've probably spent the best part of 4-5k on it. But then i realised i have come away from a crash that would have killed 95% of people. The car doesn't matter one bit.

Well congrats Bourkey on being the first person outside of Boyzone to have run himself over. That's quite a story to tell, are you fully recovered now?

I take it this happened on the snake pass? that road has claimed so many lives, and even more cars, I remember seeing two seperate wrecked cars by the road side in a single journey.

Ah yes my injuries. I forgot to mention them. Well At first i had a very slim chance of survival, which is obvious considering what happened. I had drains coming out of each lung as they had collapsed, a morphine drip for the massive amount of pain, the top half of my arm was broke in two so i had to have a titainium rod put in my arm, i had a large hole in my arm with lots of little scrapes around it, i have damaged a nerve in my arm so i can't move my hand so i'll need physio to get it working again and i had to learn how to walk again.

Right now im pretty much repaired but i need a lot of physio to use my arm and hand again and im still a little wobbly on my feet. Im not allowed to drive until physio clear me. Im off work now for over a month as well which i hate as been stuck at home is rubbish.

And yes it was snakes pass. It just happens to be my favourite road. Half of my car is till up there in loads of pieces. It's a few corners after the summit, about 100 yards from the little waterfall.

Glad to see some one admit that they were speeding and happy to take the rap. As said on uksc, I hope you recover asap and well done for using yourself as an example to hopefully save others from the same fate or worse. Its probably good you cant remember the impact as Im sure there would have been a "life flashing before my eyes" moment.

Yeah im glad i can't remember. Apparently i was screaming in the hospital when they cleaned my wounds. But witnesses have also said i was trying to get control right until i hit the other guy. If he wasn't there i would have carried on as normal after controlling it, but he was so nevermind.

Glad you're ok mate.

Just out of interest, what difference would a roll cage, bucket seat and harnesses have made in this case?

I doubt it would have made much difference due to the force and angle the crash happened. The seats where MR2 adjustable recliners so they weren't the standard Starlet ones. The main problem of this particular accident is the seatbelt pulling me out of the car. If i'd stayed in it i may have been less injured as my own car landed on top of me.

Roll cages are desinged for rolling only and give some side impact protection, hence why they shouldn't be in a road car.

It'd have just been more metal to crush his body, skull or rest on top of him in this case.

Very nasty and you are very lucky! I'm changing to a larger safer hatchback as I'll soon be doing more miles.

This could have just as easily been someone else smashing into you with the same effect, so from that perspective it still doesn't change the fact these are fragile cars.
