Clio II Engine possibilities

This is exactly why Euro junk should be avoided.

The engine decided to throw its timing belt off just before xmas, slowing to a roundabout, and basically its gonna be cheaper to drop a new engine in or swap heads over.

So does anyone know on here what engine goes into a 99T 1.6 16v Clio II?

Im sure its the K4M however there are different variants of this also. So if someone could help out, that'd be great.

And yes iv already poster on a Reno forum but no luck yet.

I've had my experience with a K4M in a Megane Scenic, what a shit engine that is!
Think the Clio had the K4M-748, though you could opt for an 2.0l F4R, but I doubt it's any better.

Personally I'd spend a fiver on a gallon of petrol and set fire to the thing.

i owned a megane dci, and shit me its the worst car ive ever owned. fuel pump sent bits of filing through the whole system and nakkered everything. luckily managed to sell it back for a reduced price. i will never own another renault.

I could ask my mate if you like, he has a cliosport and knows a bloke at a renault specialist near to me.

The thing is i ave now found its a K4M engine. 1.6 16v. However there are two versions of this, one being a 90bhp one and another the 110bhp sport version. And i cant find the 3numbers after K4Mxxx (eg K4M718) that differentiates the two as im after the 110bhp model.

And thing is, its been a fine car up until that incident, and its still in good low miles nick.

The 1.6 16v 110bhp K4M 708/748 was used in the Mark II Clio up to 2002, and then
the K4M 740 was used on the Clio from 2002 on.

if you phoned a renault garage and ask for the engine code they should tell yopu the code k4m and the suffix the 3 digit number being as its a 1999 i would of thought its a k4m748
