Have you tired cleaning the treads on them? Thats what stop mine from loosen. Get and old toothbrush and clean away the dirt.

Give the C spanner a quick chap with a hammer, works a treat.
Make sure you are going the right way aswell.....

didnt realise they were gas my bad

Not all are gas filled but wether they be gas or oil filled heating something up that has compressed gas or oil in it aint a good idea we try not to use heat on any sort of suspension components as most are made out of high tensile steels which are spoilt by heat plus it damages the rubber boots and stuff too.

unscrewing (used) coilovers: how to

NO HEAT whatsoever should be applied to coilover set-ups of any kind. you have all the brains here giving you brilliant ideas my man. i'd do the same things suggested & make sure the threads are clean by giving them a proper brush-up with an old toothbrush, soak them in some wd40 then use the c-spanner and a (rubber) hammer to tap them off - in the right direction of course.. :D

to give you more leverage (i presume they are off the car as you try this), you can put a long spanner extension or something similar through the bottom eye (that usually latches onto the bottom part of the suspension) and use that in combination with the c-spanner tapping to work them loose.

to undo them they need to be turned anti-clock wise so that would be turing them to the left! start with the lower one then the one under the spring.

The bottom ring at the hub needs to be turned to the left to move it down, but all it does is allow the bottom purple cylinder to turn on the shock body, but, if its hard against the 2 top rings then wont be able to turn. Turning the rings to the left moves them down, turning them to the right moves them up. The 2 rings together are locked together by being tightened up against each other. You can loosen them by turning the top ring to the right OR the bottom one to the left.
