"cold" plugs

was wondering...:)

sometimes tuners recommend that you switch to a cooler/colder plug when u preform mild/serious upgrades to help reduce the changes of detonation, etc

from on here and seeing for myself....it seems like heat range 7 and heat range 8 are preferred in platinum or iridium---------stock is heat range 6 platinum

anyways.....does anyone ever expereince "hard" starting when using these cooler/colder plug ranges......either on first morning starts or after a drive and then trying to restart shortly after again??---i've observed this for a little while now:)

what are your experiences/observations?.....i'll give mine shortly

i'm using heat range 8 iirc in my Celica, not had any starting issues, although it is a little more reluctant sometimes to fire since I put in the bigger injectors, hasn't failed to start tho

put it this way, im running 255whp & 1.3bar boost on normal NGK bcpr7es.. ie normal non iridium grade 7 plugs.. i have a set of champion qc57c.. which are similar to ngk iridium ik31.. i havent tried them yet, but ill see how it goes later on.. if i need to reduce det then ill put them on, but havent noticed any problems so far..

Rather than open another thread on the sae subject. What effect would putting the wrong heat range in do? Running 1 bar with supporting mods on a ct9 is just mild aint it? so range 7? What would 8 do?

no real harm in your case.....i think 7 will be ok for your current set up---or u can use 8s if u really feel to

however, the wrong heat range can aid in high combustion temps for mild/serious modification cases----BIG power....not something that u would want in such a case

Using grade 8 iridiums.

Not one problem on cold starts in the winter, summer or whenever. Act just like normal plugs.

Yes im having problems after the car warms upto normal temperature.

Ive tried NGK Iridiums Grade 8 and also NGK R BCR8ES which is a colder plug and still having starting issues.

The car will not start until it has cooled down after like 20/30mins, regardless if you drive hard or not. It will bump start but not on its own.

Hmm, never had a problem like that.

Can't see how the Iridiums could be the problem, when people running greater specs have no issues like that.
