Correctly Setting up D2's

My D2's are clunking like a mother during slow manouvers and pulling away with any lock on at all. I plan to take them off later today and put some grease on the top mount ball joint and on top of the spring to get them to move smoothly. I'm pretty sure that's what is causing the noise.

What I want to know is the correct method for getting the ride heights the same on both sides. A mate of mine said something about measuring the distance between the centre of the wheel hub and the bottom of the arch, then the distance from the top mount and the adjusting collar on the strut. I'm not sure how that works out, so does anyone know how to get them set up? (Mr Burwash? :D)

I think the whole N/S is sitting a tad higher and I want to level it out. The O/S/F keeps scuffing on something too (Arch liner I think) so I want to sort that out.

Ta :)

the clonking/clicking is just a traight of coilovers with solid topmounts mate. mine does it a bit.

as for the setting up, you need to spend a day or so taking measurements of everything and then working out the rideheights you want. its easy to explain if the car is there infront of you but basically you do what your friend says and measure from the ground to the sill lip (can be done elsewhere but i find it the best place to measure from) then adjust the ride height accordingly to achieve what you want.

i also went as far as making sure the amount of preload on each unit was the same all round, but that is a bit more in depth and it took me about a week to get that right.

i did get slight scuffing on real hard corners and found that bending the top bolt that holds the arch liner up cured this.

hope that helps a bit mate!

I had mine set up correctly (with lazer equipment) and mine still knocks as if a spring is locating when im using full lock when turning around.

the knocking/clicking is normal so i wouldnt worry unless it gets really bad.

the heights can be done yourself. the tracking and camber should be done professionally. or by some one with the tools who knows what they are doing

It's hard to explain the noise it makes. I know nothing I have is good enough to record the sound acurately. She does make loud clonks, but she also makes the much faster clicking/groaning sort of sound. The best way I can think to descibe it would be the noise made by a wooden scraper like this...

Imagine the sort of noise that would make if the stick was moved over it at a medium speed, except it sounds more metalic.

Anyway, I would get it set up proffesionally, but it costs a small fortune, especially as I have to take a day off work.

if you lived closer me and my dad could set the right height, camber and do a basic alignment setup.

Well, I found out why the car was listing to the one side...

The fronts were 10mm out. Fuck knows why :D. I guess I lowered the one side a bit more and must have forgotten to do the other. Tracking is a bit off now, so I'll get that checked on Sat once I've greased up the other side (Only had time to do one before it got dark)
