I'm thinking of doing my own DIY air filter relocation kit to the front grill on my ep82.and I would like no filter and just say some mesh gauze fabricated into a circle and fit that into the end of my silicone pipe..obv it's not going to filter aswell.what will the pro's and
Cons be of this setup?

Restricted air flow, unless you go for a really coarse gauze, and shit drawn into the engine. No good points apart from the sound!

I take it the spool will be it quicker and sharper due to less restrictions in the pipe work once I've relocated it.does it make a big differene in sound when it's relocated?

It will spool you right up into fuel cut lol.

Not a good idea for the life of the turbo, plus where it is it will be sucking in warmer air than from the stock or relocated filter.

I was planning on doing a relocation kit but running without the filter you see so it would get maximum cold air as the open pipe would be behind my grill

if you have a stock ct9 i dont think you will have to worry about fast spooling lol

for what its worth, you may aswell keep the stock intake as removing this will cause boost creep, and you boost to be all over the place. I never noticed one bit of extra power from a front mount air filter relocation on a stock ct9.... waste of time

When you think about it, going from a decent cone filter or mushroom filter to a piece of sieve is ridiculous.

the difference in filtering area will be 30 fold... its like sieving with a fishing net compared to cotton wool.. its stupid for road use why risk it for what a filter is worth..

Be prepared to have an engine rebuild if your going to run without a filter. The shit that will be sucked in and scraping against the turbo components, piston rings, valves is not good.

Haha I rebuilt the engine 3k ago with new pistons and rings and bearings.so it should be ok on that front haha like you say for thr price of a cheap airfilter that fits snug behind the grill I mite aswell buy one

A guy in Malta I think on here runs a piece of sieve over his TD05......Just changes his oil + oil filter regular LOL!! - BUT...If I was you I'd run an air filter.

lets face it if you are going to run a seive filter, you may aswell by one of those funnels you see on the supra drag cars, fit this to your turbo and then put a pair of tights over it lol.

actually saying that for anyone who is going to run a sieve style filter it may be a good idea to use a pair of tights over the sieve for added filtration.

I'm not sure about where you guys live but I live in the new forrest, and running no air filter would be the easiest anf fastest way to blow my engine and turbo I know that... If a stone gets in their or some think dust of any sort and your at big problems from a small issue. I used a relocation kit to the front bumper (monster motorsport kit) works fine, never had a problem with it basically just sounds a lot better and spools ... Well I suppose I can notice a slight different from the stock filter but really nothing massive. Also I think its looks better at the front bumper...just my opinion.
