Customer Project - Sadh St185 Clutch + Partial Engine Restoration

Had a very nice gentleman called Sahd contact me regarding a few small issues to his St185, the main one being the lack of drive to his car. He explained that you can have the car in gear and clutch completely out of the car and rev and there is no movement. Also with the car running and clutch out you can go through all of the gears without issue. We came to the conclusion is sounds like a very extreme case of clutch failure. So the car arrived being toed to my workshop for the work to carry out. While carrying out this job we found a few other issues so sahd has asked me to rectify at the same time so clutch change has turned into more of a partial restoration of the engine.

This is what we found.

Because it was decided to drop the engine to fix all these problems the wiring loom from the ecu was disconnected, While doing this we found evidence of additional passengers it shouldn't have an someones attempt to fix a leaking heater matrix. Paper under the carpet dated 2000 :dunno:

some more updates from today

Had to replace the oil cooler water hoses as they were solid and snapped upon touching them, also the cam cover seals were again like pieces of plastic over made from rubber so were also renewed. New camshaft seals were installed and main crack seal. Unfortunately when the distributor was removed the main aluminium body was found to be snapped behind the O ring which that and the fact the O ring was again like a piece of plastic explains for the large oil leak on that side of the engine. A replacement distributor was fitted with new O ring

The battery clamps were brought when the car was collected so fitted afterwards. Unfortunately I would have loved to do the whole shiny repaint affair I normally do but this was purely a repair and get it all working again. But after the test drive seeing this is totally standard it pulley really well for such an old car in standard form. Have to say better than some of the st205's I've test driven with stock mods. Got quite a liking for the old girl

Few little issues on the suspension, few loose bushes but customer was informed and will be bringing it back later to have those resolved

Hope that customer is happy with the car now :)

I think you need to change names mate to T B restorations!! going on some of your projects but at the end of the day all the toyota fun cars are getting old!

i know, but parts are still available so i'll keep them on the road as much as i can.

because we do everything from services to full jobs like this i can't really turn it away because it looks a little rough around the edges. But it came in on a trailer, and it drove away with customer happy so can't be all bad

i did find out that the car was stood for a while and was by the coast so does explain the fact it looked like it was in the sea lol

We don't get UK imports just, UK or Import :p

well it would have been nice to be able to strip it right down to nothing and build it all back up in the condition of my other work shown on this thread. But this was mainly a repair job and get it back on the road before doing all the showy detail stuff

well it did go back with a couple of teething troubles on the suspension but he was well informed on this just ran out of budget this time around. But hes planning on going full coilover and complete polybush setup which will remove 99% of all the suspension issues.
