Wow, just for a change, the mercury commitee actually picked the best album of the year to win!
Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of great competition - Radiohead, neon neon, even the much hyped burial seems to have a real talent for creating an atmosphere..but god Elbow are such a great band. Few are so adept (is that the word?) at creating delicate, perfectly arranged melodies that perfectly express the emotions described in the beautifully written lyrics. Written by one of our times great lyricists by the way, often fused with hints of his dry sense of humour (possibly my favourite ever opening line: "I'll be the corpse in your bathtub").
Basically, I'm pretty chuffed. Go Elbow!
