Hello all my engine once warm seems to rattle below 2k.i noticed this today having driven the car for the first time since fixing a leaking sump.i have only had the car a short while so I'm not sure if it did this prior to me running low on oil due to leaking sump.i am going to change the oil 2m for some 10w40 as it currently had 15w30 which I get for free:)failing the above to cure could this be a loose cam or more likely I've damaged somthing more expensive like bottom end;-(

What does it sound like? Does it sound metallic, like metal hitting metal? Does it do it with the clutch in?

Doesn't do it with clutch in as it will then drop to idle speed.it almost like something is vibrating, possibly from the cam cover.it doesnt do it when engine is cold Thoe.could the 15w30 cause this perhaps?

i had the same thing happen to me. discovered it was the cat converter heat guard had rotted of its bolts and hung loose and tapped anything near.
give that a check bud

I have no cat,or heat sheild.it only does it once the car has warmed up so I'm thinking anything loose would make the noise all the time.unless its the manifold that's loose.

Took a mechanic out in the car,he said it sounds like little end rattle and isn't terminal.il whack the correct oil in and see if it helps.it is very faint and I probably wouldn't have noticed it had I not been paranoid about he sump and loosing oil.

Go with a 10w40 mate, be slightly thicker when warm and will give a better coating of oil on bearings etc.

Got my 10w40 ready to go,I've been trying to read up on gudgion pins etc.my noise isn't very lowd but apparently it will get worse and worse.will my engine go on for years like this or is it a ticking time bomb?my mechanic friend said its not terminal but would like a definitive answer before I set about getting it set up on rollers etc only to find it needs rebuilding lol.

Tbh it's not very often you will get a little end go on these engines, its the rod bearings that will go first. Just chuck in the 10w40 and see how it goes. If you can still hear it, get a screwdriver and put one end on the sump, the other on your ear and see if you can hear the noise :)
