Engine Removal

Hello all, going to take my engine out when I get home, I want it all out as one, but the battery tray is going to be in the way of the gearbox is it not? How have other people done this? If it cant come out the top I will have to put the car on axle stands and then lower the engine through the bottom and drag it out from underneath the car.
Thanks

From experience, you are best off removing as much as possible to gain the best access for fiddly bolts/pipes etc... Remove the front end of the car, bonnet and as many ancillaries as possible and go at it that way.

sorry guys i missed out in my first post - I have already disconnected everything, the only thing to come out is the engine mount bolts, but the link you sent me does not say anything about getting the gearbox out from under the battery tray.. which is what my problem will be when I come to do it later on

well tbh i dont think any engine just slips out it takes a bit brute force to work it out from the engine bay

maybe just take the gearbox off before you lift it

You need to follow the guide and then when the engine is on the lift you undo the mount bolts and as you lift the engine you turn it a bit just to overcome the battery tray.Side gearbox mount can stay on the car tho.(just undo the 3 bolts on the gearbox side of mounting.

yeah as above i dine this as i put an engine in with the box on from the top and it was a bastard. dropping it out is easy but only if you have a ramp. remove the gearbox 1st. also the radiator and remove the exhaust from the decat at the bottom. and ust unlpug all the loom and fold it over. its easy, it may take a bit of buggering about but make sure you mark the pipes at the back of the inlet manifold theressmall coolant pipes amd vacuum pipes.

yeah if you use an engine crane with a chain instead of a rope you'll be able to lower the gearbox and pull engine up and out so it will miss the battery tray
