Ep82 Crank resurface

Whatzz up everyone,
I Blew up my engine, a 4EFTE, and now I want to try out a 5E Turbo,
I have a 5EFHE block complete (I put in 4EFTE pistons)
but the crank that I have is damaged,.
The problem is in my Country (Suriname) we have machine shops but they don't have equipment to Balance crankshafts.

So my question is should I take the chance to resurface the crank without balancing it?

You won't have too much of a balancing problem with a regrind or polish. Just make sure you use the OEM harmonic damper pulley :)

Another reason why I'm worried is, I know an engine builder from Guyana and he told me that an oversize 4E or 5E don't last.
he has a lot of experience with engine building.

But I'd like to know what you guys think of this statement.

A little bit of the cars racing in Guyana, and a few of these engines you see racing in this video is build my friend (not tuned)

Theres nothing wrong with a reground crank, it does weaken it a little. Unless your going to be using the car for serious competition use where its expected to maintain peak power 90% of the time, it will do no harm.

OK,
Hey do you guys use Plastigauge to measure oil clearance? is it a good Idea to use it?
Thing is, it's the first time I'm gonna use it so, I'd just like to hear the advantage and disadvantages of Plastigauge from people who have used it already.

It's the only real way to measure the oil clearence. Easy to use as well. Just make sure to coat the journal surface in a thin bit of oil first as the plastigauge can stick to the journal.

Best to get the journals measured with a accurate measuring instrument if you want the engine to last!

First get the measurement of the main and big end bores without the crankshaft installed, but with the bearings and caps torqued down.

Subtract these figures with all your journal measurements, this will show you what clearance's you are left with so to get the correct bearing if it requires a different size.

You can use plastiguage, but really it is there for just a visual reference and to see that the clearence between the bearing and journal is uniform.
