EP82 Scraping door...

Hey,

My door scrapes on my wing pretty badly, its quite annoying! As far s I can tell the car hasn't been in a ding, are the doors easy to rehang?

Someone also mentioned to me about pushing the wing forward, can anyone elaborate?

Thanks

is it the plastic trim on the door or the actual door? do you have any pics?

with the door open, if you try and lift the door up and down, can you feel play? what are the panel gaps like with the door shut?

its most likely worn hinges. rehanging the door is a bitch of a job. you need 2 people ideally. you can get to the bolts by removing the arch liner. its a bit of trial and error. slacken the bolts and get someone to lift the door, do the bolts up and try it. keep having a go into you get it in the right position.

Thanks for the reply mate, its the actual door on the wing, around the height of the GT Turbo badge.

Taken quite alot of paint off and makes an awful noise every time I open it, doing my head in.

Sounds like the door could be opening too far?

Is your checkstrap (bare metal rod between the two painted hinges) still intact? If it's loose or broken that might allow contact between the wing and the lower door moulding.

It scrapes the minute I open it Jay. Will have a look at check strap later today.

Jay have a look at my build thread, new exhaust on!

Not that I'm aware of Phil. Have any of you guys heard of pushing the wing forward? Another starlet owner mentioned it to me but I cant really get my head round it!

I wouldn't push the wing forward.
one of my GTs scrapes in the same kind of place but only when the sun has been on that side to expand it enough to just touch. it scrapes on the plastic moulding where the GTTurbo badge is. my hinges are just a bit worn. I need to lift the door up a touch, but havnt got round to it ;)

undo the wing bolts on the engine bay sill and push the wing a bit forward the holes are slightly elongated so you should have between 2-5mm of play. it might be easier to have another pair of hands so 1 person can push the wing whilst the other puts the bolts back in.

If the door is sagging slightly just push the door up when its open but dont apply too much force.
