Great write up I don't really have anything more to add to that, it's pretty straightforward.
I've got the old shaft here and my intention is to disassemble as much as possible and then carefully open up the sealed portion of the viscous coupling to see if I can do anything along the lines of a rebuild kit. If that's not a goer we could try welding it up solid and pulling the front driveshafts and see what she's like rear wheel drive
For what it's worth I was pretty impressed with the 4wd hardware in the EP85, in comparison to the other 4wd cars like the Civic or Mazda demio etc the Toyota gear is hugely overbuilt. For a car originally designed for getting Japanese housewives up their snowy driveways I think it has real performance potential.
