Forged engine on standard ecu??

Hello, this may have been covered, sorry if it has,
I'm looking into having my engine fully forged but will I be able to run it on a standard ecu till I get a piggyback or standalone ecu?
A few friends have said yes I can still run it on the standard ecu and some have said no, so I thought I would post on here to get your advice on this??

Yes you can, but I would advise that the base ignition timing is reduced from 10 BTDC, to around 6 BTDC to ensure that the engine remains safe from knock. Also to ensure that the AFR is spot on, or slightly on the rich side for your setup. around 11.2-11.0:1 would probably be around what I would like to see.

Thanks, yeah I will do that, but hopefully if everything goes to plan I will have a piggyback at the same time,
Thanks again Adam!!

You will be fine running it as is.
Run it at standard ignition timing and you will be fine.

If on a stock turbo, then you will be fine with stock boost levels, so long as things are checked to be running as they should.

If running any form of a larger turbo, I wouldn't risk damaging the new engine and drive the car off boost until you can afford to get an ECU fitted.
