Frustrated Getting cams back in...

Hey Guys n Gals,

I have had my head off to do the gasket, and now im syuck gettin the cams back in, i keep snapping the cam cap retaining bolts, even if theyre finger tight...

Is there a guide on re-installing the cams anywhere?

On a side note Toyota here in NZ want $5.04 per bolt to replace em, I seriously think thats a bit of a rort, can the6y be had elsewhere cheaper?

i have snapped some too

i take it your torque wrench wont go down to such a low setting?

Only goes down as far as 10lb, so no, but i just snapped one laying the cams in and they were only finger tight :|

For Toyota parts I would suggest buying through Mark, he's the toyspeed club sponsor and usually gives excellent rates.

Send an email to parts@manawatu.toyota.co.nz with the subject Toyspeed parts request and he'll sort you out. Great guy to deal with.

As for you breaking bolts.. that's a little bit of an odd one. You will probably need a smaller torque wrench (larger ones are very inaccurate in the lower part of the scale) to get it consistently correct. Are you putting the cam caps back on in the correct order/placement?

Yep Fatman the caps are going in the right places (theyre stamped, even a plox like me can read em )

I'll have to chase up a smaller torque wrench methinks.

make sure u tighthen them in the correct sequence and evenly

those bolts need no more than 13nm (around 9-10lbs)
