As stated above want a relitavley fast hatchback that does 0-60 in 7ish to 8ish seconds or less but also want good usable power as it will be daily driven and will cover roughly 100 odd miles a week max budget is 3.5k. Don't mind what size it is

for 3.5k, you can get a pretty decent starbo with loads of mods/power & you can drive off-boost to save on gas :p .. or are you looking outside the starlet family..?

i find a starbo really hard to keep off boost and you have to drive like a 80 year old to get any real good mpg out of any petrol car

tried civic / crx just seems about the same as a starbo tbh with the starbo you have to use boost to get you going due to its small capacity engine

Toyota D4D - corolla for example? Look what taxi drivers drive - believe me or not the MPG is their main factor for the car -)

urban vs. highway

i think it depends on where these miles are covered -- if in the urban/peri-urban (town driving) then you'll struggle getting high mpg. highway cruising often gives much better mpg..

sounds like you would be better off with a moped mate. i just have a 50 i use for work as i live pretty close. if its stop start traffic and its only 100miles a week then you could run a moped and you will only be paying about £6-£7 a week on petrol

2 wheels

unless you are looking only at car options, i think you should consider switching to 1WD :D bike-time! :) mopeds, small bikes or scooters are most efficient for your kinda situation. you can then use the car only when you have cargo/passengers or if the weather is really crappy..

One of these in standard trim would do just fine, why are you concerned about 0-60 when all its doing is going from A to B as a daily.....
Plenty of poke low down for the town driving yet surprisingly quick up top.

Bike is an awesome idea but not in the UK, when it rains almost everyday! Not to mention that 4 of my bikes were stolen, the last one worth £300 and was chained near the shopping centre and it disappeared in less than 30 min....

Doing 100 miles I would just keep a Starlet and save on MOT, Road tax, insurance and all the hassle for a second car...
