fuel gauge not working.

The petrol gauge on my starlet is not working it is constantly in the full position even when I'm low on fuel. I used to have a light that came on to tell me I'm getting low but now that's packed up aswell!
I've checked the wiring under the back seat and is all fine so I think the problem is behind the dashboard. Does aNyone know why this is and how can I solve this please. Cheers.

I would chedk the fuel sender is not stuck in the up position 1st. If you remove the rear seats you will see where the wires go into, its easily removed with a star head screwdriver and you can have a look inside and see whats going on.

Most of these sensers work by putting 12 volts through a resistor, the gauge usally reads high if the resistance is low so it would only read full when you have a short between the wire to the gauge and the feed wire.
