It could be injector tick, all starlets do it so i'm told, have a listen and try and locate where the noise is comming from. Injector tick had me worried when i first got the car but i've learnt to live with it

Is it the icv that i can hear ticking too or do the injectors make a similar ticking/tapping noise? I have been led to believe by fellow members of this forum that it is the injectors which emit this noise? (although i have learnt to take some information from this site with a pinch of salt)

They tend to be ticky mine always was. Could be ignition related as well plugs etc..
no its like that a long time now and i changed the ignition ignitor/amplifier and the coil for different reason and it didnt change it at all.unless there is something else on thr ignition i dont know of?

what is the idle control valve?what does it look like and where is it?the noise seems to be louder around the passenger side of the top of the engine and its the same around the drivers side on top but seems more towards the back.i put a screwdriver to my ear and to a few different places but its hard to say exactly what it is.what ya think?

The idle control valve is located on the left hand side of the inlet mani. It's plastic and grey and has a plug going to it

unplug the plug shown in the pic and see if the ticking noise goes away

I checked my car and it's the injectors (as i suspected) that are making the ticking noise
