Think i found clips on brake international, so ordered them.

only to have that terrible feeling ive probably ordered the single pot clips..

anyone able to help, im uber confused as to why my st165 twin pots seem to never be the calipers talked about when st165 is mentioned.

This is what i ordered (pad fitting kit)

http://brakeparts.co.uk/#page=parts...on=CELI*(85-90)+ST165R+2.0GT4+4X4+TURBO+COUPE

No mention of twin or single pot (unless im missing it)

but if you go to calipers there is both twin and single pots listed.

Phil is confused.

For my own future reference this thread is useful.

Phil

Thanks again.

Phil

Bought a caliper rebuild kit for my brake kit apparently st165 twin pot celica ones.

This is the thread where I bought them from starbuck. Who bought them from shorty previous.

Now firstly the reason I'm not doing this by private message or behind the scenes is simple,my lack of knowledge on the celica brake setups is completely my own fault and neither shorty nor starbuck have done anything wrong in all this.

I'm just asking the masses and should anyone have any input it's very welcome.

http://www.ukstarletowners.com/topic/79086-for-sale-toyota-starlet-celica-twinpot-brake-upgrade/?fromsearch=1

Here's the pickle I bought a st165 rebuild kit and the seals for the carrier sliders are as per the right hand side of the pic below whereas they need to be asper the left (small seal that goes over the slider bolts and seals just between it and the caliper.

Anyone any idea what seal kit I really need?

Levin or different celica st version?

Anyone with experience please shout already wasted 50quid on the seals that don't fit!

the seals look ok to me.

the longer seal is for the slider that bolts straight through and the smaller seal is the one that pops onto the caliper and the pin slider slides into it.

is that pin broken? I cant see the threaded part that allows you to fit them to the carrier?

EDIT: sorry, just looked at the uksc thread. they are not st165 calipers I am afraid. they look like Levin twin pots.
chances are the clips and the pads you have bought wont fit either :(

part numbes for these are:

rebuild kit: 04479-12140 or 04479-12170 - cant read Japanese so not sure of the difference, think 95-97 model!?

clips: 04947-32080 or 04947-33020 - same as above.

pads: look to be something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EBC-FRONT...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item48473b4680

I think I may randomly have the clips for a set of these calipers as a mate had a set he was going to chuck out. when I get a chance I will have a quick look and see if I still have them.

Thanks for all the info, if you have any brainwaves about how to narrow it down from the two set of different part numbers let me know, i can take any pics etc if that will help.

and that would be great if you have some clips about there, let me know and ill square you up for them.

the toyodiy diagrams don't show the differences so someone ideally needs to be able to read Japanese:

that is what is displayed after the second part number in both cases; アリ(ス-パ- ストラツト サスペンシヨン)

doing a bit of digging I would go with the second number. if you search the first numbers it comes up with different models with single pot calipers, the second number brings up twin pots.

so you want : 04479-12170 for the rebuild kit and 04947-33020 for the clips pads are correct.

those calipers could be off a Europe spec carina E ;)

Just priced the new part numbers with toyota.

Holy smokes they know how to charge!! 124quid.

Plus the rebuild kit i cant return and the clips that wont fit

this Toyota caliper nonsense has cost me 190quid not including buying the calipers & discs.

could have bought willwoods or WMS

hardly bares thinking about.

the clips look about right.

I would go with the second rebuild kit. but as I have said before, I would be wary of biggred calipers as they are crap in my experience.

the rebuild kit fits the following cars according to toyodiy:

Japan 06/1991-05/2002 TOYOTA COROLLA AE10*,CE10*,EE10*

Japan 06/1991-07/1998 TOYOTA LVN AE10*

Japan 05/1995-07/2000 TOYOTA LEVIN, TRUENO AE11*

Europe 02/1992-12/1995 TOYOTA CARINA E AT190,CT190,ST191

carina e st191 is a carina e GT ;)

Looks like the right bits. Tbh, they probably all come from the same place. You may be ok, but I just had no luck with them and found genuine far superior.

One thing I would check before spending any more money is that the calipers actually fit with the discs. From the sounds of it they have used the original dimensions with the astra discs that I worked out years back when I did my st165 conversion. I believe the Levin twin pots (like yours) are slightly different so may be worth a quick dry run before spending anymore cash on them.
