Ive just had my car changed from Auto to manual. Now the gear box seems kinda rough when chaging gears, when it shouldnt be as its a new gear box!!!

Im wondering if maybe they didnt put any oil in the gear box? Just throwing a guess here? If they didnt could this be causing the problem?

if it had no oil in it at all then it would be dead by now!

could of put the wrong type in which is possible, or maybe its a bad clutch

Hmmm its a new clutch, so it should be ok... I might do a oil change, as its proberly my best option for now.

strange.

is it a BRAND NEW gearbox or just reconditioned?

it is possible that they only changed the bearings but the synchros are slightly worn?

but yeah give it a oil change and see if it improves..

Its a recond gear box, as its second hand outta a crashed glanza... And it dose feel like the synchros are slightly worn, its still fine to drive, its just not as smooth when changing gears.

And thanks alot for the help Adam!

well itll be one of those issues:

1: wrong gearbox oil grade

2: clutch is worn ( but as u say its new it cant be that )

3: worn gearbox synchromesh's

good luck neway and let us know how you get on

the starlets gearbox is a little notchy compared to some anyway. an oil change is worth a go though

Just hope the gear box is ok, as its been converted from auto into manual. So no idea on the history of the gear box.

So if the gearbox has worn synchromesh's, any idea on roughly how much this cost to fix? I like the smooth gear box feeling lol.

in the uk around £200 if thats all thats really wrong with it. anywhere else in the world probably half that amount.

Lots of shops around my way, so i shouldnt have to wait too long... I did a oil change, but still feels the same. Got told to double clutch it when changing gears, as its got somthing to do with helping the gear box go into gear?

yeah, if your synchros are worn that would help, also bplippig the throttle when changing down can help. i guess all your linkages are fitted correctly and arent loose or anything?

Not to sure how i can check if they are? I didnt do the gear change, or then id have a better idea of what could be wrong with it.

When i put it into nutral and wiggle it left to right, when i move it to the right its kinda tight? Like somthing in the way?

Is it true you can you regular oil or transmission fluid in a standard transmission. Some mechanic say they use it on honda trans. an it is supposedly better than gear oil. Is this true?
