No, not necessarily. C56 is the successor to the C52, in starlet terms it means a different 3rd and 4th gear ratio. What does your transaxle code on the Toyota build plate say?

I posted a tread about this ages ago asking where on the gearbox unit does it state which C series gearbox you have, as most look the exact same... ill look for the post as this needs answering.

You didn't mention what your chassis plate said.

Failing that the best way to know for certain is to take a photo of the underside of your gearbox, similar to the one in that thread linked above.

it was on the vin plate (think thats what its called) lol the one where you open the bonnet and it right in front of you at the back of bay

its in the engine bay mate, metal plate.

excusing this, how can you tell which gearbox you have. as suppose previous owner changed the gearbox, or you buy a gearbox second hand. is there not a code stamped on the gearbox casing itself???

"01A/C56" is an open diff 5speed.

'C56-02B = lsd
c56-02a =non lsd

there still could have been one fitted later on

If you look down behind the throttle body, maybe shining a torch, you should be able to see if the gearbox has a diff control coupling (the big lump in the above last 2 photos) bolted to the side of it or not.
