Good price for 5E?

Hi all, I've been offered a 5E engine for £260 is this a good price? I know these engines are getting hard to find. It's done 60k miles but doesn't have a head or gearbox, it's just the short motor. I have seen whole engines on eBay before go for like £130 but haven't seen any on there for a while.

Thanks

Flol. I paid £50 for mine! But mind you that was 2 years ago though.

Most of that price is the other person knowing what we do to that engine. I wouldnt pay that because you are basically paying £260 for an engine block! The rest is pretty much spares.

I did think of that Ted, but then i'll be left with a shell and I haven't really got the room to keep it. I did look for someone whos breaking a sera/paseo but there doesn't seem much about.
Nomez, I think thats the problem, the price is bumped up because people know that we take the engines and turbo them up, so the price is at a premium.
I suppose it's just a case of keeping my eyes peeled for one.

Might be able to shift the doors etc if someone has crashed theirs....

All helps get some money back :)

Dont bother buying a paseo, you will be lumbared with alot of it.

Just wait it out and one will pop up, just look out in breakers yards, sometimes ebay and blown engines etc. Mine was a blown engine hence why i got it so cheap.

Looking at the price you have been offered i would pass it because serious alot of it is scrap bar the main part...... the block. I have sh*t loads of 5e bits in the garage doing nothing, you could try and sell some parts off but again thats more time and effort.

Thats what i'm worried about Nomez, obviously its only the block and crank which are of any use. Paseo's, sera's are hard to find down this way, so will be waiting a while to find one in a scrappy.
Don't really want to buy the whole car because then i'm left with bits and bobs which I most likely won't be able to shift.

Believe me you will be scrapping most of it!

I had to drive to Nottingham to get mine, was worth it though i guess with the end result so it depends how far you are willing to travel to get one.

I think i even have a spare 5e crank too, lol as well as flywheels, clutches, heads etc etc

You could buy parts for your project first like the pistons, turbo kit, management etc and wait till a block n crank pop up. Those parts mentioned above can be used either 4e or 5e. Saves just waiting around for an engine.

Don't mind travelling for one, aslong as its not like 400 miles lol. I don't mind paying for a courrier to collect either.
Yeah I suppose its a reasonable idea to buy parts that are compatible for both, I wouldn't wanna leave myself short if a block and crank does pop up though lol. As it's always the way.

cam you not just buy a whole car, take out the engine/the bits you need then take the shelll etc to a 'cash for metal place'?

i reckon you will get your money back and you have a free 5e :)

That will depend on the price of the car though, many scrap places only offer about £100 for cars these days. I could take off whats worth the money and sell, then scrap whatevers left.

i got a paseo off ebay for 320 quid. i sold some of the lights, the dash cluster and a couple of other bits, not much tho and scraped the rest for about 100 quid. also the car had plenty of tax on so i got that back too.

You would get £100 to £130 for a Paseo shell at a recycling yard with no engine in it, but if you buy one then you can drive it to see what the engine is like, pump any fuel left in it out for yourself and grab anything useful to yourself you can out of it.

They weigh the cars when they decide how much they are worth, you can get at least 40kgs of water into an empty fuel tank ;).

hmmmm that is true :S but it would be an idea! at least then you wouldnt be left with a horrible looking shell taking up the space :) you would make half the money back from scrapping it, sell the bits you take off for another £150/£200 and still have a free 5e ;) lol

i saw a few paseo's etc being sold for next to nothing so they are really cheap
