The requirement is a programmable replacement for the stock ECU, in a road car that may see the occasional trackday. My first thoughts were that the Sprint 500 would be ideal, the cost isn't too bad and it comes fairly well spec'd for a entry level ECU. However, I then started to look at the Sport 1000. Obviously the cost jumps significantly, but then as they say, if your going to do it, do it right first time.
So looking down the spec list for the Sport 1000, there are a few points that I'm not too bothered about, such as the anti-lag, launch control, valve timing control, nitrous control etc... it's a road car remember!
The points that have got me thinking are:
•Fully user-definable 32 x 32 mapping ( Up to 1024 points)
•Wideband “Auto tuning” using user definable target AFR table
•EGT fuel correction
•Open or closed loop boost control ( Road speed, RPM or gear based mapping)
•Tuning via TPS with manifold pressure correction
The main benefit I can see is the Sport 1000 32x32 mapping vs the Sprint 500 16x16 mapping, although I'm wondering if 32x32 is really necessary and if 16x16 mapping would be more than enough for what is required?
I'm no engine tuner and have very little experience with aftermarket ECU's, so other peoples thoughts on this would be interesting to hear.
Is the Sport 1000 worth the bigger price tag? or would the Sprint 500 do the job just fine?
