Planning to heat wrapping my mani, whats the best heat wrap out there?
Do you wrap the mani first before install, or after install the mani on the engine, than wrap?

Hi mate, I picked some up from ebay, it isn't too bad. Got a 10 metre roll, 2 inch wide for I think £12. This only just covered my mani. I tried to wrap my mani on the car.... bad idea... Take it off then wrap it, only I couldn't find the little metal snap off ties, so I used copper wire to hold the wrap in place.
Getting another couple of rolls to do decat and part of exhaust.

I've seen other wrap melt on cars, that why i ask for better ones.
Those ties can be pick up on ebay at cheap prices. have a look around mate. something like £5 for 10.

Tuning developments do a good quality wrap mate, very high temp etc..

I would 100% wrap the mani before you put it on, alot easier to pull the wrap around it and nice and tight.

go for that grey looking one, i think its the graphite one. Dont get ebay one, its shit! spend a bit of money of some good one.

i bought the ebay crap and it was like cotton cloth and didnt make a difference, ive seen no one else use it and so im going to take it off and use the grey one

DEI heatwrap is good stuff.

also you can use hose clips rather than the stainless cable ties as an alternative.

So, do you mean wrap it after the mani installed?

no, what i mean is, it is better and alot easier to do it off the car, thats what i did but make sure you clean the thing!!

Also, dont wrap the heatwrap mega tight on the mani as you need to leave a bit of space for the metal to expand. Another tip would be do it when the wrap is wet

??? So how should this be done? Mani off car, Soak the wrap first, wrap it not too tight?

Im thinking about doing this shortly too...

Ive heard people say that painting the mani before putting on the wrap, and then also painting the wrap after is a good way to stop rusting problems.
Anyone have comments on this?

I gather this wrap (the Hi Temp Graphite (Black) Fibreglass) is good stuff?

the metal wont expand enough to matter. you would have to be the incredible hulk to do it so tight that the wrap didnt have enough stretch in it.

I cant imagine you having a rusting problem with heatwrap any more than you would without it. As soon as the car is started it will burn off any moisture :)

I don't use stainless cable ties, just use a bit of locking wire; wrap it round the heat wrap and twist the two ends together - keep twisting with a pair of pliers so its tight. Held perfectly fine! Just an idea.
