help! can Irish drivers get points in the North???

I think you can get point in any country in the eu on your lisence now.
Not 100% sure if this is in effect yet.

its not being bought in till late 2008.

but was wondering if it affects a irish licence.................

coz i smiled for a speed camera on sunday morning and a mate has a irish licence and he said if it doesnt affect his licence he'd say he was driving and take the points 4 me... ;)

i know if i was caught down in the south i dont get points just a fine.
