Well if I cant get my GT back on the road before xmas, I may have to break the fucker and get something a bit newer :(, unfortunately it looks like I will be travelling a fair bit after xmas with the downturn in work!

Anyway, Ive been looking at three cars within my £5-6k budget which are the Corolla 1.8 VVTI (190bhp version), Celica 1.8 VVTI and a VW Golf GTI T Mk4 lol! Anyone experienced any of these? I know none of them are uber quick but that doesnt bother me too much tbh, as long as its reasonably quick! Im particularly interested in the Corolla if anyone knows much about them??? Or any other nice little cars I could get mt hands on in that budget?

maybe worth you joining the corrola owners club - sure there will be loads of info on there for ya.

my mates just sold his mk4 1.8t anniversary model in silver for just under 6k with 56k on clock, in silver and mint - lovely car, i know its not jap but theres quite a few things you can do to them and they are really reliable.

The Celica VVTI is the 140 The VVTLI is the 190

You have to be carefull because i have heard of dealers trying to sell 140's as 190's

190 is ok for speed not much quicker than a fairly stock GT/Glanza tho

A DC2 is quicker and handles better:p Vtec Y0!!!!

Right cool thanks for that lads, might try and get my hands on a Corolla to get a test drive in one.

@Bazza, yes I am getting it forged but its taking way longer than expected unfortunately and also have recently been told I will be going to offices in places like Derbyshire and Stourbridge so dont fancy all the miles on the GT :(

o so you are keeping the gt?

Well I dont know lol, I NEED a car just after xmas because I cant really do my job without one lol, so may have to get a car and then break mine to pay for it, or if it's back on the road possibly keep it. If I find the miles too much in the GT the yes I may well sell and get something newer more suited to longer journeys at some point in the new year :homer:

though even the 1.4 vvti corollas are a pig on it,my mum has 1 and u cudnt throw petrol at it.

my gf has the celica and I have driven it a lot. I am not a huge fan of the looks although it is growing on me. The handling is absolutely amazing! They are about as well balanced a fwd car as I have ever driven and having driven the ITR in stock form and the celica in stock form the celica is by far more sure footed.

They are geared really well and the 6 speed box is very nice. I like the interior a lot too it is really comfortable for long drives. Its feels like a proper little sports car. My gf's is the 140 version and my Glanza totally demolishes it but I have driven a few 190's and they felt a good bit quicker. The TRD version is nice. The 1.8vvti engine had a design flaw though and is prone to the oil sludging and toyota has replaced a lot of the early cars engines under warranty so something to look out for as far as I know this was only on the 140 versions.

They are really good on petrol, I did a long drive from Meath in Ireland to Dublin got the ferry to Hollyhead drove down through England and back up and used a tank and a half of petrol!

The only bad point I have come across is the amount of oil they drink... its pretty serious it says 1ltr per 1000kms in the manual and they aint telling lies. A big container of oil is always needed in the boot.

DONT get the corolla ive had a t-sport 190bhp and the t-sport tte compressor 215bhp both shit. Shit handling, brakes and just a bore!!! there quite fast but no where as fast as a staock GT/Glanza and would never keep up with a DC2 (as i have 1 now lol)
Thats my opinion anyway.

i love the compressors, much difference over the t-sport,like is the supercharger worth it??

LOL, a DC2 would pump a t-sport in every way. As an everyday car thats reliable with a little grunt,go for the corolla.Celicas dont appeal to me as much. The VVTLI gets fucked up by the gear ratios, always drops out of the rev range, and dont handle nearly aswell as a DC2. There not too bad reliable wise. the 190 engines are better than the 140 ones (but still use oil) the brakes always corrode and the rear pins on the celica always seize/snap.

Jonny- the compressor makes up for a good pull lower down the revs but thats about all. Not even that noisey,no real charger "whirr".

have to disagree... thought the celica handled far better than DC2 both stock cars.

Have to disagree the DC2 is the better all around car. if we were talking a Celica TRD Sports M then ye i would agree but not a bog standard 190
