HELP please with a computer problem

hi folks im hoping sum1 can help me out here
iv been using a Iomega 1TB external hard drive for about a year now and its been brilliant,UNTIL 2day when i come 2 use my laptop and i get a message coming up saying

"one of ur usb mass storage devices atached to this computer has malfunctioned,and windows does not recognise it.for assistance please click here"

i went on2 google n typed in things to see if i can find out why this is happening

when i plug it in and download to it from the downloader i use it works.
while its plugged in it says this message tho.
its like my laptop is trying to fuck me off

Have you made any changes to your pc recently?Does the same on all USB ports? Only this device?

Check you've the newest driver,reinstall it to make sure the current one isnt corrupt.


Try restoring it to a previous date.

If Windows 7 and Vista- Start>All Programs>Accessories>Right Click Command Prompt>Run as Administrator (Elevated CMD)>Type
SFC /SCANNOW This will take a while but will let you know of an file problems.

If that fails try to see if there is new firmware for your motherboard,and if there isnt try reinstalling the same version as on of your USB (or all) might malfunction.**Last resort,be careful and make sure it is the correct version.
