hi all. well my car was going like brill untill the clutch started to slip so i fitted a exedy clutch. i took drive shafts out of the car to do this to give me more room.

The problem started the sec a took the car for a test drive. sounded like a very dry wheel bearing which is coming from the driversfront wheel. so i got a hub complete from a friend and fitted it and it was the same, so i just thot it was going bad aswell.

So i got a new wheel bearing kit and got it fitted AND STILL THE SAME DAM NOISE.

Does anyone have ideas what else it could be. im thinking mybe a drive shaft but it doesnt clunk or make any noises when turning like a bad shaft would.

so what else is there.

thanks for any help.

thanks for the replys. i think the drives are in properly as if they wernt the oil would dribble out cos it wouldnt seal properly, iv also had it up on axel stands and put in gear and both drives are turning.

as for cv joint, would it not clunk when putting cut on the car??

thanks for the input

Check the disc backplate isn't rubbing

Hey Dave

Thanks for your input.

I tried and checked the brake disc dust guards and they are 100%. Im still scratching my head cos I dont understand what it could be as the car has no miles on it and it isnt abused! Also if it was the cv joint would it not make a clunk noise when putting on full cut? How could I check this?

Thanks for your help

When you say "dry wheel bearing" do you mean its like a grinding noise, a rumbling noise or more of a squeeling noise?

That sounds like complete shite mate I know, but bear with me please.

Hey weeJohn

Its more like a constant slight grinding/slight rumbling noise. Sorry im not much help and that prob sound stupid but its hard to describe. Car drives 100% and doesnt seem to pull anyway under acceleration. This is just doing my head in as the car is perfect and this noise is so annoying!

Just found out last nite that my discs are warped just slightly tho.

Thanks for all your help.

could be comeing from the clutch? as that was the last thing you fitted before this noise came up. and yes cv's will make a clunking noise when wheels are turned.

yeah also if the cars been sitting there for a while it could be the brake discs rusty.

mine where terrible when i got my car as it had been sitting on the boat for 3 months the rear discs had a nice big rusty lip on them that made a horrible grinding noise at low speed!!

check it out

If you have put it all back together right, it is more than likely your brakes rubbing, but it could be the release bearing on the clutch.

Push the pads off the discs and without using the brakes after pushing them back drive along SLOWLY and see if its still rubbing.

I say slowly as you wont have any brakes until you pump the pedal a few times!!

It rules them out easily.

wen u drive along put ur foot on the clutch pedal alittle bit not enough 2make it slip and c if its still there, i fitted a exedy clutch wit the bearin in the kit and its makes a noise similar 2wot ur sayin and its only the release bearin

Diff breaking up ?!? last car that made a rumbling/knocking noise was all the time after about 20mph,
you would normally only get this noise when on 'over run'/ in gear without foot on accelerator

Any help ?
