Hi, From Japan!

Had a friend who recently moved away and didn't need his car anymore, so I took it off his hands. It's a 99 Toyota Starlet Glanza. Has a ton of mods and I also ended up with all the old parts as well. This will be the wife's car, so I am slowly putting it back to stock. So far this has meant removing the Bride seat and Momo competition wheel.

I came on here to learn more about the car and it's strong and week points.

I noticed that the boost controller is setup for .81, .85, .88, and .95bar of boost. Are all of these okay on the stock engine? The ecu is either a Blitz or a Jam (I can't remember which one at the moment).

Thanks for everyone's help.

Hello and welcome, with the aftermarket ecu all those pressures will be perfectly fine on a stock engine.

Welcome along, its good to know the Glanza is still being driven in Japan, I thought most of them were put up for import after they were 10 years old.

Jam/Blitz/Mines ecu`s all seem to be programmed with the stock engine in mind, a CT9 turbo works quite well up to 1 bar and the engine internals can handle that amount ok. With the stock exhaust manifold piston number 3 can get a little hot as the exhaust manifold is a bit restrictive, but many cars imported to the UK from Japan came with the stock manifold and top mount intercooler still fitted.

0.8 to 0.9 Bar of boost will keep your wife happy enough with power and also keep the engine working in a safe window.

Yes, it has a performance cat, full exhaust, an rx7 modified intercooler, and a bunch of other stuff. Glad to hear that it is okay at those pressures. I usually run it at minimum boost any ways. The person who had it before me had been building it for about 8 years, and has kept it in great shape.

This is the only photo I have at the moment. This was before I got the car. The eyelids are now gone as well.

Very clean example here! How much is 99 Glanza cost in Japan these days? Also what kind of petrol do you run there?

Looks nice mate, wondered how the black mouth would look if I was to chop my bumper for an FMIC and smooth the lip before spraying black like that, I like it :)

I don't know what they go for in general, but not that much. I paid about $1,400 USD for this one. You could probably find them on both sides of that price.

I'm using the lowest octane (regular). This is our commuter car, so like I said, I am actually slowly taking the parts off rather than trying to make it faster.

And what's the Mileage/KM? Is it an AUTo or a Manual?

This is cheap -)))) very cheap, no wonder those dealers like Sva imports make so much money. Considering your car has Jam ECU which is around £400-500 alone!

I paid for mine with 100 000Km 1998 model Auto - pretty much standard - £3500, but it was over 2 years ago, so I belive it's cheaper now.
