Hi guys, engine check light isue

well lads. engine check light started coming on intermittently. I ran a diagnostic and the code seems to be 12, which according to the guide found on this site is a RPM signal fault.

I have only recently bought the car, and not everything is standard in the engine bay (no major mods though).

Does anyone have an initial idea as to what it might be, and could it be serious?
