if i wanted to clean this (green one) could i just wash it then out it back or do i have to coat it in some special waxy stuff as i remember reading something about this?
Wash it out in petrol then soapy water then clean fresh water.Let it dry then spray it with airfilter oil.Job done.
Well when you buy a new element from HKS they don't feel like they've been coated with anything. However I don't know whether they are supposed to be coated with anything before fitting. I thought that if you coated them with filter oil the oil could get sucked into the intake a clog/damage a sensor or something.
I was wondering about this because as an air filter they seem a bit crap. Let loads of small bits through, as I found out when removing my air intake tubing for service.
Cheers
Andrew
HKS never supplied oil with them when bought new.I rekon they should have as you have already noticed they do let crap in through.hence the reason why I coat them with filter oil.Don't plaster it in oil just a light coat.
but where is this readily available (filter oil) and why does cleaning with petroll help?
petrol is basically a good de greaser, i dont know exactly why but because its quiet strong it brakes down all the dirt
no one has answered my question . wehre can i get filter oil from ?
